Mattresses

I hate buying mattresses. No consistency from store to store regarding models, price, and what-not. That aside - does anyone here have one of those Tempur-pedic mattresses? We looked at them yesterday and I do like the way they feel. I am just wary of the higher price. Their prices also seem consistent from store to store - high - no real bargains.

I am tired of waking up more achy than when I went to bed, and it is time for a new mattress. If anyone has had one of these mattresses I would like to hear your thoughts!

Thanks!

No ownership experience with Tempur-pedic. But we did test them out.

FWIW - We bought a Restonic and have been very happy with it. These are less expensive than other mattress brands as they don't advertise much. You can find them at the Sleep Shop on Burnet. We looked forever for our new mattress and finally chose this after much testing.

i had a tempur-pedic mattress pad for awhile - it was okay. i recently went to purchase a new mattress and wasn't sure that the full tempur-pedic mattress was what i wanted - when i tried it out, it felt like it was too hard to turn over - i guess the idea is that you don't need to turn, but i like to move around to get in the right position.
i ended up going with a Spring Air Back Supporter, which I got at Mattress Firm. It has a layer of memory foam in the "pillow top" type section of the mattress. i love this mattress and actually have difficulty sleeping on anything else. i think the full tempur-pedic mattress is sort of a fad, but who knows, it could be all we use in the future. for now, though, i love my spring air, and i wake up feeling rested. i have had zero back problems since getting the mattress a year ago (i had a slipped disc before then, and had surgery and always woke up achy).

I own the tempur-pedic and it was the best $2000 I have ever spent. It has basically ended 10 years of chronic low back pain.

One thing you have to get used to on a tempur-pedic is the bed does sleep warmer than a traditional mattress...I've had to go with thin sheets and basically no blanket unless it's freezing ......

I think it helps to get one of their pillows, I didn't have one the first night or two I slept on the bed and the traditional pillow just didn't work right on the bed

Dammit, this is what I hate about these threads on mattresses. So many good suggestions which leaves me just where I started. There is a company that supposedly makes a bed just like tempurpedic but at a lower cost. They claim that Tempurpedic is just a brand name for a product, not the only product. Cannot recall the company though, but their prices were about 40% lower.

What about the sleep number systems and then the adjustable beds? I will be buying a Queen sized bed in the next 6 months or when I find THE one.

Very informative site. Check out the Celenia Plus - it might just be your ticket. I have a Celenia King. I liked these guys better than Select Comfort, and they cost less.

Aside from the obvious advantages, the best thing about these beds is you can replace/upgrade parts over time if needed, and not the whole bed like with a regular mattress.

I bought mine here: The Link

90-day trial. Could be better prices elsewhere now, but not at the time I was shopping.

if you go into a mattress shop, like Mattress Giant, look around for awhile, ask alot of questions, jump on each of the beds. show alot of interest. then tell them you are gonna go shop around. they will beg you to stay and haggle with them. it is like buying a car. do not buy for what they originally try to sell it to you for.

We have had our Restonic for ~5 years and are still happy. We tried all the top of the line mattresses and honestly liked this one the best. (We looked around quite a bit before deciding.) The cost was lower, but it isn't a "cheap" mattress. And, as the poster above said - you can negotiate some on price.
