Matthew Stafford: Best QB in the nation

I have now heard Stafford named by Herbstreit (twice) as the best QB in the nation. once on tv and another time on radio. I don't understand where he digs this stuff up. Here is a guy that completes a little over half his passes on only about 25 passes a game, he threw about 19 TD and 10 int's with a total of 2500 yards passing last season and a a horrendous freshman year. he is benefitted by a great defense and he doesnt have to throw the ball much. I understand if you like the guy, but the best QB in the nation? With tebow in your conference? The Big XII has 6 better QB's imo.

In all, I really don't get the hyp of Georgia, i know they have a lot of talent but they didnt exactly beat the crap out of anyone last year, they put a lot of teams away late...again, they are benefitted by a whipping of Hawaii, a crappy team, in a bcs bowl...Georgia will lose 3 games at least this year.

The dislike for the kid on here is downright comical

The kid will be one of the first few picks in either next years or the following NFL Draft

Kid is never going to be some all TD's/no INT's guy but he got a hell of a lot better between his true freshman year and sophmore season and finished 2nd in the country last year
 
He is certainly at the tops in terms of NFL prospects, but he is so ******* far down the list of great college qb's this year it ain't even funny.
 
I don't dislike the guy, I just don't understand the hype. I have watched a lot of georgia games and not only does he not look good, he has looked quite awful....he looks like another retread of heath shuler, a guy with lot of hype that never looked impressive in games and was out of the league in 4 years after being drafted as the 3rd overall pick. you would think after what he did last time while in washington his state would know better than to send him back but that is another story.
 
You watched him and he looked awful? Here is an idea....watch more than 1-2 games

The guy has looked great in many of their BIG GAMES including Auburn, Florida, and had game-winning drives against Bama and Tech

I am not saying the guy is GREAT and I am not saying the guy will ever be some NFL stud but to hear people talk about the kid, I wonder if I am talking to AP writers who judge teams they have never seen before.
 
He is surrounded by some serious talent this year and last...that makes him look even better.

Look at the #s, he was serviceable but far from great in those games.
 
I'm glad someone else finally said this.

Stafford might be big time this year and next but based on what he's done so far, he's average. He's a 55% passer with a habit of throwing INT's.
 
I wonder, too, how hpslugga's spidey sense hasn't gone off yet...

Numbers will obviously be important, but winning matters too (see Ward, Toretta, etc.). If Stafford can navigate that schedule with success, I can certainly see how he'd be in a Heisman conversation.
 
Had Stafford been a 3 star recruit coming out of high school, he wouldn't be getting nearly the hype he's getting now. It's not unlike what happened to Chris Simms.
 
This is the time of the year where ESPN wants to predict everything and hype up the entire top 10, especially the top 2 or 3. Which team will go undefeated, etc?

What we do know is that Stafford is not an efficient QB at this time...55% comp% and low TD/INT ratio. He is a very good arm and given time he should be a very good late junior season/senior season QB....he's just not there yet.

One of Georgia/LSU or both will be big disappointments this season IMO. GA hasn't bad a big time RB since Smith in 02. Moreno may be the difference this year and that will help Stafford.

All this being said, GA has South Carolina, Az st., Alabama, Tenn, LSU, Florida, and Auburn on their schedule this year. Good luck bulldogs and Stafford.

SEC may end up looking like the Big 12 North did a couple of seasons ago when the best team had 3 losses.
