Matt Hill

Nothing against Matt, but can anyone figure out why Matt went in and stayed in for several minutes in the UConn game? I found that baffling. Matt hasn't played much in tough games and wasn't able contribute much if anything. Chapman at least has contributed.

I think Barnes wasn't happy with some things Wangmene did so he's in the doghouse and went to Hill. Hill didn't play well so he went to Chapman. Chapman probably missed some defensive assignments, noticed a couple, and went back to Hill. Coach Barnes has a quick trigger is someone doesn't play well. Its a good thing and a bad thing.

Chapman needs to learn to finish. His missed layups were killer.

On another note (and not to hijack the thread), but why does Barnes take Pittman out in the first minute when he picks up a foul? How can the guy get into the game if he constantly has to worry about being taken out after a foul call?

Gary >> Chapman > Lexy > Hill ...

Not sure why they came off the bench in this order:

Lexy
Hill
Gary
Chapman

nobody is pimping chapman's defense here. but, in order for that to be a valid point in this discussion, we'd have to be able to say that matt hill (and to some extent, wangmene) play appreciably better defense than clint. unfortunately, that's just not true.

matt hill is not a good defender and put that on display against uconn, being slow to react, unable to challenge shots due to a lack of athletic ability, and generally contributing to the uconn cause by giving them multiple and-1 opportunities. so, if you're complaining about chapman's defense as the reason for not playing him, you'll have to make the argument that hill's defense is so much more superior to clint's as to overcome the deficit that his offense creates.

"Gary >> Chapman > Lexy > Hill ... "

I agree with that assessment, but recall that Chapman & Hill are taller that Wangmene (who is taller than Johnson). I suspect Barnes felt we needed a bigger player at that position v. UConn.

I love Gary's effort and determination. I wish all our bench guys played as hard. But I prefer him playing PF rather than subbing in at the 5.

Chapman is a solid player considering the low amount of playing time he's had the past two years. He has contributed more in the past two games than Hill and Wang have in the past 3 years...

How many of the posters on this thread have ever attended a Texas basketball practice? How many have played for or coached a top ten div. 1 team? How many have earned a 7 figure income as a college coach or coached a final 4 team?

Just sayin.....

GoHornsGo90,
Clint Chapman's stats in last 2 games are 8 total points and 2 rebounds.
I don't understand what you mean.

I really mean no offense to Hill, or Chapman, because they are probably both great guys that try their best, but how they are scholarship athletes on a top ten basketball program is beyond me.

Royal,
Awesome resume. I got cut from my 9th grade team, so I'm certainly no expert.
In your original post you stated that you were baffled, so I'm puzzled that anything related to basketball could baffle someone as knowledgeable and accomplished as you.
By the way, what forces the other posters to "have to" coach?
Or did you mean also; that's spelled "too." It has 2 o's.
I'm way better at grammar than basketball.
