Marshall Crenshaw

Crenshaw was/is HIGHLY underrated as a performer, songwriter and guitarist. This version of Someday Someway was recorded last year. His voice is still outstanding. His first self-title LP is still one of my favorites.

The Buddy Holly comparisons are more from just his looks and appearance in La Bamba. this version of Cryin', Waitin', Hopin' with Dave Edmunds is tons of fun.

His 1989 "Good Evening" was a fantastic record.

His excellent 94 live album, "My Life Is A Truck" is where his guitar playing is finally shown. The band on this album is incredible, with one of my favorite bass players, Graham Maby and Kenny Arnoff on drums is reason enough to own this album. He even does an ABBA song. What more do you need.

I have an autographed copy of his first LP on my living room wall. "Whenever You're On My Mind" is one of my all-time favorite songs. So is "Cynical Girl."

I think it took years for him to shake his role as John Lennon. My favorite tune of his is Kelly Willis' cover of "Whatever Way the Wind Blows".

Thanks, ya'll for the links...he's so talented yet so obscured, it seems.

I had two of his albums, Mary Jean and nine others andField Day (from which came "Whenever you're on my mind"). On the latter album is a tune called "What time is it?" that seems to start in the same beginning key as the aforementioned "Whenever you're..." - I could almost listen to those two songs all day.

Crenshaw just happened along at the same time as Costello, The Police, The Pretenders, and Men at Work among others.
