Maroon the new It Color?

Ok... I really don't care much about any other program and really only truly despise the crimson and cream goners. So... here is my perception. It seems like our Maroon little brothers have grown up the past two years and have shown they can succeed in the Land of the SEC. I really think that the hype is centered around one player. Manziel is polarizing... unpredictable... and well... he is their schools VY. He is a true competitor and is just amazing to watch.

Still I sit here and look at the teams records and the Ags have two loses... Texas has 2 loses. we are entering a stretch where we can go 3-0 or 0-3... time will tell. What gets me is that even with the Ags two loses... you would think they are still in the running for a conference title or a nation title bid.

Why is that? Is it just that Manziel is so good he makes their program seem like its better than it is? I am board on a tuesday and the two Aggies in my office speak as if they are still undefeated and set to concur the world.

I remind them that Texas has the same number of loses... but to them.. its like Texas has 5.... is this just Aggie logic... is my perception of success different because Texas is in the Big 12 and the Aggies are in the mighty SEC.

How many other horns out there are faced with this discussion in your work places. Last time I checked.. a loss is a loss and a win is a win. I wonder how this perception changes if The Ags lose to LSU and Missouri.

if we finish 8-4 then sure, the shine will very much be off. i think at worse we'll split our remaining two games.

but right now you have to compare who the losses were too and how bad the losses were.

UT has two losses to two teams that are currently unranked by a total of 40 points.

A&M has two losses to two top 10 teams by a combined total of 11 points.

i think a better question for horn fans is not why they arent as highly regarded as the current A&M team, but how in the hell OU is ranked a full 6 spots ahead of you.

Well.... I honestly think its the hype machine... When you have JFF and he is constantly in the media all spring and summer and then the scandal over signatures, it puts the program in the spot light. His play on the field is without question simply amazing.

I Guess my question to Prop is ... just because the loses are to ranked opponents.. does it make it acceptable? Here as Texas fans... a two loss record is not acceptable yet alone 3-4 loses. I am just a bit confused that The Ags in my office see two loses as no big deal because they are against top 10 teams and they say that our loses were to no one good. There are still games to be played so the records will speak for themselves.

Last year the age were third in their division and tied for 4th overall and you would have thought they were playing for a MNC. This year isn't over yet but I swear.. My office Ags look past the two loses even though the Ags are currently 3rd in the west. Maybe its still the rivalry hate that makes them buildup a successful season from last year and not wanting to admit that the two schools records are nearly identical no matter the opponents played.

Please explain to me the logic of the Aggie Mind... If at all possible. Or you know what... Don't bother... these are irrational Aggies to start with so I guess I can't justify their logic.

i'm not exceptionally happy with where we are. if we had any sort of defense we'd be in the national title hunt. i can take some solace in the fact that they were close losses but two losses for this team is pretty disappointing.

but as to finishing 3rd in division or whatever in 2012, that's a bit of a misnomer because we finished ranked in the top 10 last year and handily beat the big 12 conference co-champion. wouldnt you consider a top 10 finish for the horns a fairly successful year?

aggy beat OU last year when OU was demoralized after not getting a BCS bowl. This happens all the time. Other than the fluke last year with the Alabama win, who has aggy beaten in the last 2 years? I think its more a point that S$C defences have been exposed as not being as good as advertised, Thus, a lower tier Big 12 team goes to the SEC and wins. Personally I love seeing aggy all giddy over won-loss records that Longhorns feel are sub-par for our team.

According to NCAA.com, y'all are 87th in scoring defense, 112th in total defense and 109th in pass defense. Even arky racked up 483 yards and 33 points so if Ole Miss is able to corral Manziel a couple of times late (I know that's hard to do), I don't see y'all in the win column this week.

Only stat that really matters is wins and losses

I think we have a good chance to beat LSU. Mizzou worries me more than LSU does.

I don't think Aggies are "happy" with 2 losses so much as there is still plenty to play for and be excited about. Manziel is still very much in the Heisman race and the team is a lot of fun to watch. The LSU and Missouri games are both looking like they will be exciting. If A&M can find a way to win both they are likely to get a Sugar Bowl bid. A&M is getting more national attention than ever as well, I was shocked when the ratings for the A&M/Ole Miss game were actually higher than the RRS earlier that day.

The recruiting at A&M is also very strong right now and there is a lot of excitement about the new stadium build, it's amazing to see what they have already done to Kyle in just over a week (the First Deck is gone, the field is gone and already been dug down, the Jumbotron is gone). The future looks bright, though losing Manziel and Evans next year is going to be tough I don't think that most Aggies looked at this as our "one shot" to win the NC, it still feels like we are on the upswing.

Another big factor is A&M is doing more from a marketing perspective than ever before. I remember when Mack came in at Texas and the investment in marketing to get the brand out there was palpable. Texas did a great job of getting mileage out of Ricky's Heisman and using it to launch the run of the '00s and all those great recruiting classes. It was very frustrating to see A&M sitting on its hands and just watching Texas and OU blow by.

Texas will be back but the landscape has shifted. A&M has a lot of buzz going for it now but buzz fades, the key is always the future. You have to think forward or else be left behind, memories fade quickly. I think the Patterson hire was a good one if for no other reason than Dodds just needed to go, he was still living in the past and more focused on making money than putting out a quality winning product.

Let aggy enjoy their 15 mins of fame, it will end sooner than they think.

Regarding that picture above of Sherman. He was actually in that pose before Tucker's kick, which in my opinion makes it even sadder than what it is.
