Marinade for smoking/grilling chicken quarters?

I've got a 10lb bag of chicken leg quarters from the deep freeze that I'm trying to use up since they were opened for a crockpot recipe - any suggestions for a good marinade for smoking or grilling?

I've used a lot the store bought liquid ones and the grub rub that HEB sells, but wanted to try something different. They'll have at least a day or so to marinate, so any tips?

A good start is just good old Wishbone Italian Salad Dressing.

I usually put that in a big bowl and start digging in the pantry for things to add...
I sometimes add sugar, balsamac, worcester, tabasco, dried herbs, red wine, lemon juice..........just about anything you like. I mix it up.......taste it...and either go with it or add more stuff.
It usually turns out pretty good for grilling.
I don't smoke much, meat that is, so for that I am not sure.

Wishbone Italian Salad Dressing is greatness.

I also use combo of about 10% line juice, 30-40% dark beer and rest orange juice. Comes out very moist when cooked over good hot charcoal in the grill.

Over cooked chicken is EVIL.

When I smoke chicken quarters, I just coat them in peanut oil and then liberally sprinkle Nature's Seasoning on them.

Smoke them until the juices run clear. I've never had a better smoked chicken, plus its awesome the next day.

I'll have to try the peanut oil suggestion next time - I ended up doing a couple of the quarters in a teriyaki marinade I had around, mainly just to finish that off.

The remainder of the quarters were marinaded in a soy/worchestshire/oregano/brown sugar/garlic/basil mix that I found a recipe for online.

They came out great after smoking for a couple of hours w/ hickory at around 3 hours - I made some smoked chicken tacos w/ some HEB raw tortillas and some sauteed mushrooms & peppers.
