Maria's Taco Xpress...

Haven't been to Austin in awhile, but saw this place on "Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives" recently. How is it? Guy tends to be overly complimentary regardless, so I'm asking for the locals' opinions. Thanks in advance...

I like it, a bit jaded since I live here, but better than most other taco places.

Cannot beat Torchy's though.

IMHO, Maria's is better. Torchy's, while good, has too many "cute" tacos and it shows up (in a bad way) when you order a basic taco from them. Maria's does migas tacos and "basic" better than anyone in town. Also their picadillo is very good.

So far they are my favorite breakfast taco spot in Austin. Enjoying them during gospel brunch makes the exerpience that much better.

My favorite Taco spot has got to be Taco Deli. I have yet to try Torchy's and that seems to be pretty high on everyones list.

Maria's is still very good. As long as Chino is working the grill, it will always have some of the best tacos in town. It got touristy when Walgreen's moved them to the new space. The old location had dust on the tables, seating for about 30, electrical hazards, the refrigerators in the men's head and assorted other fine dining characteristics that kept tourists away.

My two favorite spots for miga tacos (with extra cheese and avocado) are Nuevo Onda and Maria's, not necessarily in that order. If someone held a gun to my head, I'd probably go with Maria's.
