Good point on the GM. it's totally personal prefernece on that one. no true right answer. my advice still holds, though you can try Cointreau and GM to figure out what you like best. i don't care for the cognac taste in GM.
*if you want to save some $$$, try Citronge by Patron, instead of Cointreau. it's very good and costs somewhat less.
That's the orange liqueur I was referring to, scottins. I couldn't remember the name. Thanks. (Of course, it's in my cabinet about 8 steps from the computer, but that's a different issue.)
I agree that Grand Marnier's cognac flavor is a little distracting in a margarita, but I sure wouldn't turn it down if someone offered.
Question: why doesn't gold tequila work as well as silver in a rocks margarita? Maybe that's not the right way to ask the question. Why does cheap stinky gold tequila like Jose Cuervo seem to be appropriate for a frozen margarita? I can't stand it on the rocks, but I don't mind it in a frozen drink.
Get on of those big 2.5 gallon water dispenser thingys from the grocery store. Empty out all but about 1/4 of the water. Add somewhere between 5 and 10 big cans of limade. Add a a bottle and a half of tequila, (or a bottle if you;re a weenie,) and a bottle of triple sec. Add some sugar, and a bit of orange juice if you have it. Viola.
