The Arranger for all three of these tunes was Randy Bass. I emailed Randy last year, and he is still going strong arranging. The first tune "Grieg Medley" was used fairly extensively by LHB, although I don't know who used it first; RRHS or LHB.
Grieg Medley was the first tune played in Giants Stadium in 1984(UT vs. Penn St.), when the LHB played so loud they drowned out the TV halftime commentators.
I've never personally heard the other two played by LHB, but maybe others could offer rememberences.
This was the first "state marching contest", but it was not sponsored by UIL. Wally Pryor is announcing, and the contest was held in Memorial Stadium.
Other connections, our drum major, a senior, Cindy Graves, was salutatorian, played in LHB for all three years she was at UT, and she graduated in three years - predentist. She has a successful practice in Austin.
Just this year she was able to put this on youtube, and I found it the other day. spine tingling. If you know anybody whose mom or dad went to RRHS, please pass it along.
