Many of you are sounding like myopic Aggies...

OK -- decent recruiting class. Not as bad as a couple of the posters think, but not nearly as good as many of you think. Stop being homers for a minute and look at the last few classes -- yes, good, quality players, but how do you expect to consistently be in a BCS bowl with a top 10 or top 15 recruiting class? Sorry to say it, but we really need some top-5 classes on a more consistent basis.

There's nothing more aggy than ignoring obvious facts when stating your opinion.

Also note recruiting rankings leading up to our 2005 MNC

2002: 1
2003:15
2004:10
2005:20

Other than some of the broken hearts regarding DScott, I don't see it that way. Good DBs, WRs, OL, and DTs, solid elsewhere.

We were pretty strong to start with. As much as we would have prefered, a class with 20 5 stars wasn't needed to play good football for the next few years.

I think Brown signed a very, very good class this year. There is a tremendous amount of speed at several positions. Power and quickness at the offensive and defensive lines. Size and speed at safety and receiver.

Folks who gnash their teeth when we don't sign 5 star recruits are, I guess, the ones who buy those scouting site subscriptions.

I am constantly amazed by how many people here are concerned with stars. The number of stars put by a kid's name by some self-appointed expert holds no weight with me. Would you never recruit a QB not named Brock Berlin?

Don't you think Mack knows what he is doing? How many times does he have to prove himself?

Dancing with the Stars, Wishing Upon a Star, Star Light Star Bright, Star Furniture....the list goes on. We are obsessed with stars.

Turn it up, bro.

i'm not following so closely anymore, but it does seem that the very best players in the state have been going to ou the last few years.

Pardon me, folks, but Rivals ratings for the past 5 years (inluding 2008) were 14,5,5,20 an 10. That's an average of 10.8. Wouldn't you think we'd have a No. 1,2 or 3 class, and, hopefully, nothing below a 15 9really, hopefully nothing below about a 10)? Eventually, even with consistently good talent, the lack of top classes will be a problem.
That said, congrats to the newest Horns, and I wish all of them the best of luck

I bet if you went back to someone's recruiting list (like Rivals) from 3 years ago, half of the top 100 have never done anything notable in college.

if you take avg star ranking, texas is 10th at 3.55

that is a good class, and getting to a BCS game has to do with coaching up the talent on campus.

Jonesy,

You obviously have NOT seen the film I saw at lunch today.

And how many years have you been an D-I head football coach?

I think I'll trust those in the Texas program who have recruited for 20 - 30+ years. They know much better than you ever will what constitutes a good class.

Mack Brown's been closing Blue Chips while many of us were in diapers. You can doubt his gameday abilities & clapping, but to doubt his recruiting is like telling George Clooney to get married so he can finally score.

I agree with the original poster mainly because we have had a severe shortage of 5 star recruits. Most of the teams like Florida, USC, OSU, OU etc. have had as many 4 stars as us, but they have 5 stars where we have 3 stars. Obviously, these don't all pan out, but statistics don't lie. There is as much difference between our recruiting the last few years and the very elite, as there is between our recruiting and the bottom 25.

As far as OU, we have enough problems beating them even when we have far superior talent. After they have outrecruited us for a few years, it is really daunting. Since, we are Texas and have as much talent as we have, we will always be able to beat someone, but I would like to be favored significantly going into the games rather than an underdog.

I'd love to see how many 5-stars we have on the field each particular season. I'm not the recruiting maven that some of your are, but I would think our overall stars were much higher in 2002-2004 than they were in 2005.

I'll take a winning team over 5-stars.

PLease re-read my posts. I'm not saying teh sky is falling, or that this is a bad class. I'm simply saying that our classes aren't ranked as highly as some of you like to think they are. Eventually, seems to me that will catch up with us.
Oh, and if you are happy with a consistent "winning season," defined as consistently winning 10 games and going to a non-BCS bowl (yes, apart from 2004 and 2005 seasons), then I'm sure you are very pleased indeed.

So you know what some posters like to think? That's pretty cool. What am I thinking right now?

You know I'm thinking about lunch. Only question is... what's for lunch?

I don't understand this thread. None of it. Seriously, I mean:
