A giant among even NBA stars and a towering symbol of hope in his native Sudan, Manute Bol, a former 76er, died Saturday morning. He was 47.

Bol passed away at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville where he was being treated for acute kidney failure and a skin disease, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.

My very first NBA game was the Spurs/Bullets back in the day. The Bullets had Mugsy and Manute which made for a funny lay up line. But Manute was a great dude and will be missed.

Wonder if that's the record for most disparity between the tallest and shortest players in a starting lineup?

I wish his passing got more than just a quick mention on espn. Although he wasnt a great player, he was a novelty and will be remembered for his compassion and charity.
Bol gave up almost ALL of his earnings to help his country. I think we all wish there were more players as selfless as him.

Ah, you're right dangdirty. Thought Georghe Muresan was taller but just looked it up and he was also 7'7". Golden State did draft a 7'8" player in the 80s, but he never played a game in the NBA.
