he was a good one alright.
Had some of the most spectacular grabs I've seen especially last year when PT would just try to get it any where near the guy.
OU has some pretty good WR's on board but no MK's.
It'll be tougher next year w/out him.
Kelly was about the only guy we couldn't defend last year if Bradford threw an accurate pass. Unfortunately the deep balls were often underthrown and that let our CB's catch up to make the play (b/c safeties were nowhere to be seen usually). I always liked this kid and had wished he had come here. Glad he is going pro b/c I wouldn't want to see our secondary have to face him again.
I think he was an underachiever. Only 5th in OU history in number of pass receptions. They didn't start passing until a few years ago. And, he never made above 2nd team All-B12. Something was wrong there - and I"m glad - because he has stud-level talent.
I'm sure people have seen his father's quotes re: MK's decision to leave:
In a December interview with the Tulsa World, Kelly's father, Moses Kelly, said his son was considering the direction of the OU offense and his use in it as a factor in making his decision. "Is his school going to design more plays to get balls for him, or is he going to run down field the majority of time blocking, which is mostly what he did this season?" Moses Kelly said. "He started off catching more, but as the season went along, he didn't get more than two or three touches a game. If the defense adjusts like that again and they can't get the ball more to him, he has to think about, 'If I stay, what would be the benefit?' "
Kelly played only one series in the Fiesta Bowl because of a thigh injury. thelink
I've spoken with some OU fans who weren't quite pleased with his decision to sit out most of the Fiesta Bowl. Particularly in light of AP 's(the original) heroic performances through injury. Of course, they could just be masking their grief with nonchalance.
