Malcolm Brown

That was some impressive Fred Flintstone twinkletoes there. Sadly, I didn't realize he was still in the NFL. Thanks for the post/reminder.

He had some pretty unfair expectations placed upon him from like his HS sophomore year onward. Comparisons to Adrian Peterson when the only real comparison between them was size. So by the time he was a senior, he was the #1 RB recruit in the nation, and outranked a bunch of future NFL'ers like OBJ, Sammy Watkins, etc.

He was solid for us but never had that Peterson burst of speed or energy to get him into those high rushing totals. The injury his sophomore year and eventual "replacement" by Johnathan Gray dug into his numbers. He had a pedestrian 4.3 ypc for us, mostly because we used him on obvious rushing downs and had a mediocre OL.

I'm not sure anyone's run harder or with more effort at Texas than Malcom Brown in the last decade or so. Even when the J-Gray thing was taking place, I still felt like Brown was the guy I'd pick as a move-the-chains runner. He's really done a great job at the next level and I'm not surprised by it.

Yeah I couldn't stand Gray's style. For a guy that was recruited out of Aledo for his ability to break tackles and make 20-yard runs look easy, he went into a shell for most of his Texas career. Brown was definitely more powerful, but never got enough of a chance to be the "main" guy once Gray came in.
