Malcolm 10/15

The wife and I went down to New Braunfels this evening to watch Cibolo and NB play. Great evening for a game.

Cibolo won 14-10 on a td pass to their TE with 8 seconds remaining after NB had driven 70 yards to take the lead following a Cibolo fumble by their QB on an errant pitch to Brown.

Malcolm Brown had about 110 yards rushing and 40 receiving on 2 receptions, one going for an 11 yard TD on a swing pass that was thrown behind him. He made a great catch turning backwards then up the sideline bowling over a guy at the goal line. NB did a good job on him tonight but the refs did a better job wiping out several big plays he made including 16, 35, 12 yard runs and a 50 yard kick off return.

I've see him play several times now and he is a solid 217-222#. The rumors/posts that he is 240 are just ridiculous. He is in great shape, btw. The kid has jets and accelerates through openings very well. He hurdled a guy on one reception tonight. It was impressive, to say the least.

I was there too.

It was my first time seeing him in action.

The MAN can stiff-arm like I have never seen. He did not just deflect the would-be tacklers . . . He drove them into the ground.

The Cibolo DT who is going to OU never factored into this game. He was just another player on the field . . . Nothing special.

It's been many years (almost a bygone memory) since Texas has had a game-changing, defense-tiring, chain-moving running back. I know Texas always recruits well (at most positions, anyway), but Malcolm gives me special hope for the future, especially considering the issues the Horns have had so far this year.

The eyes of Texas are on you, Malcolm!

Of course I remember Cedric, and before him Ricky. But Cedric played the 2004 season, which is almost 2 team generations ago. Texas has been spread city since then.

Seeing Texas struggle in its attempts to go back to a power running game this year is enough to make any Longhorn fan wistful, I think. Hence the even greater anticipation of seeing Malcolm as a Horn.

i b lovin me some Malcom, but Earl's strap was made of pure plutonium & always at risk of going critical mas. ain't nobody totin' that thing unless it's in a lead-lined box...too dangerous.

You don't remember Cedric Benson? ____________________________ Vince and Earl made defenses want to quit and go home. Cedric as a very good slasher type rb.

I saw Cedric play in HS many times, and never ever thought of him as a slasher. He would punish guys. Maybe not quite as awesome as Earl, but he definitely was looking for contact at the end of every run.

I saw Cedric in HS as well, and I agree. It seemed as though he would at times change directions just to hit someone rather than try and run around them. That's why Cedric is the type who gets better as the game goes on. By the end of the game defenders are tired of trying to tackle him, or rather, being hit by him.
