This morning, Trump responded and according to Politico "the Trump administration is planning to ease fears of a trade war by announcing later Tuesday billions of dollars in aid to farmers hurt by tariffs." The Washington Post puts a number to the aid: $12 billion.

Under the White House plan, the money will be disbursed in at least three ways, coming through direct assistance, a food purchase and distribution program, and a trade promotion program.

I'd rather it go to farmers than some country in the middle east, but I'm against these things in general. I have many farming/ranching friends. How much federal assistance they get is public record so a couple years ago I searched. One family has gotten millions with an S over the past few years and trust me, they arent hurting for money. They have the best equipment, the newest trucks and keep buying more land every year. The more they buy the more they get.

I keep telling my wife we need to figure out how to get in on this, but with only 15 acres it doesnt work. I'm too chicken to ask them hw it works for fear of coming off judgmental, which I am.

Farm subsidies like everything else the government is involved in goes to the larger, more powerful companies in an industry. The subsidies will then necessarily go to the farms that don't need the subsidies. The smaller, poorer farmers will not get to partake. It's one of the things I think that should be a bipartisan effort: remove all subsidies from every industry. Of course that is why it will never happen.
