Major's Offense at the Alamo Bowl

All I want to see is Ash not over/under throwing wide open receivers, and (if he gets into the game) McCoy throwing only to the receivers in burnt orange.

I hope so. If by halftime there hasn't been a pass on 1st or 2nd down, I'm not watching the second half. It seemed that too often Harsin (Mack?) would not take what was available in a bizarre insistence to establish a power running game that's not there. Of course, maybe that was because our QBs are truly that terrible.

I liked Harsin and think he did okay to good with what he had (QB/OL) but my hope is that what we see from a Major led unit is more tenacity and fire.

I think we'll look at the middle of the field more often on passing downs. Our run game isn't going to change because Major was practically the run game coordinator for the last couple years.

I think he'll make an effort to tighten up the play action as well. When he ran it here, it was more bang-bang than the slow development. Every time we run play action, it doesn't have to be a 50-yard pass attempt. This is where MJ McFarland and those guys were supposed to come in handy. Harsin's been sticking with the Ryan Roberson flats PA pass play way too much in the 2nd half of the season, and I think Major scraps that unless it's just a goal line play.

For the bowl game, it'll definitely be "get the ball to Davis or Shipley" on similar routes and plays, unless we're actually running the ball. Which I'm not so sure of, considering Hopkins will be out.

I don't care if we go back to the wishbone and only throw it once. If we score 6-0 that counts as a win and that's good enough for me.

Major is capable of calling a great game plan, and getting the team ready. He is a natural leader, and I pray he is allowed to lead. Win or lose,if we come to play and leave it all on the field, that's all we can ask.

run, pass...doesn't matter. statistically, when we get 6 explosive plays per game, we're 70-0 over the past 15 years.

I think you will see a number of long attempts, if we get put in bad yardage situations, Major will go for all the marbles.

There will be at least 2x as many deep attempts as we have seen in any other game.

I wonder if we will bring back greg davis's WR screens or his bevy of 3 yard passes on 3rd and 4, 5 yards passes on 3rd and 6th, and 9 yard passes on 3rd and 10, etc.

They were a major part of Texas football from 1998-2010 and no one ever seems to want those back.

My instincts may not be all that good, but they tell me that if Major is truly given freedom with respect to plays and personnel, he could do something.

Excited for Major to take over the offense but
worried about the time he has spent in the
Mack Brown incubator. At the worst he'll emerge
as a play it safe eunuch and 'yes' man and at best he'll be
the creative competitor and winner we all remember.

Time will tell I guess...
