UT paid lyles for the recruiting information NOT to supposedly steer recruits to visits. Major wasn't buying. The plot thickens...i wonder where things will shake out. glad Major is on our side and has his integrity.
Not quite. UT paid a recruiting serivce to provide video. Lyles was an employee. UT/Major became aware that Lyles was trying to shake down UT boosters to get them to pay him to line up recruiting visits. Major told boosters not to do it, reported Lyles to compliance dept and NCAA, and began working to expose Lyles. In that timeframe, Lyles had gone out on his own and was being paid by LSU, Oregon and others for scouting services, but also (allegedly) for influence over recruits.
tamster's comments are misleading. UT payed the recruiting service, not Lyles. Lyles asked for the money, UT refused, then went to work outing his scummy ***. This is old news.
Buried in the middle of the innuendo in the article is
"The documents obtained by "Outside the Lines" do not indicate that Texas cut any side deals with Lyles."
sorry, i misspoke. i meant paid for the info NOT the steering of the recruits. major, smelled something fishy and reported it to compliance. in the end, major, of course, did the right thing. i'll edit the first post. i was just giving props to major.
I love how the writer of the article spun the title to make UT seem like it was involved in shady practices. By the end of the article I was very proud of the way Applewhite handled it. My belief that UT football has classy guys in charge is reinforced through their handling of this situation.
