Maine Shooting

If someone says they are going to shoot up a public place in a public forum, should there be some kind of surveillance? Or temporary jail time? Or temporary gun removal? I don't really like that idea because of how it can be abused, but there has to be something to be done other than sit around and wait for a person like this to murder people.

Threatening to shoot up a public place is a crime. He can be thrown in the slammer just for doing that. The problem is that the government simply isn't competent enough to track down every lunatic who says he's going to do something crazy. What we really need to do is institutionalise the crazy people again. This nut (like the Tennessee Tranny) should have been locked up in a mental institution before ever becoming violent so he could get the mental health treatment he needed.

I agree. I wish HOAs, neighborhood groups would be given a measure of sovereignty to deal with people like this.

Not sure I'd give commitment powers to HOAs. There have been some pretty abusive and arbitrary HOAs. Not saying no chance in hell, but there'd have to be pretty significant oversight on them.

Yeah. I have an HOA and it is pretty useless. But you get the picture.

Let's be honest. The real problem with HOAs is that it's too easy for them to become of a weapon for passive aggressive suburbanite women to use against other women in their neighborhood who piss them off and usually over stupid things.

"You brought that cheap-*** Chardonnay to MY book club meeting when you brought good stuff to Tiffany's book club meeting? Just wait until your grass is an eighth of an inch too long or when your husband's BBQ is an inch too close to the fence. Then you'll find out who you're dealing with."

On top of that the underlying issue is because one woman is jealous because her perceived rival is prettier than she is or the rival has a richer husband, etc.. lol

Agree folks need to be forcefully kept in mental facilities. Too easy for them to enter and exit currently. It'd be like asking 8-year-olds if they want to go to school or play iPad all year. Of course they'll all pick iPad! They don't have the mental capacity to make such a choice.
