mail.utexas.edu Email with Microsoft Outlook

I've used Outlook for the semester (freshman) and have had no trouble receiving and sending emails, using my mail.utexas.edu account. But recently, Outlook cannot send emails. It can receive emails, but apparently the outgoing mail server is wrong/changed/got ****** up in Outlook/who knows...

Can someone who uses Outlook with their university email account give me their servers for incoming/outgoing mail? Also, is it Pop?

WTF

yes, it's pop. I recently had this problem with RR .. the solution was that I had a DNS configuration problem. I had a name for my pop email server that the local DNS servers could resolve, but any remote DNS servers couldn't - it was "pop-server". When I was at home (hooked into the austin.rr.com doman, pop-server resolved to the RR pop server, when I was remote, it didn't). Once I changed the server names in Outlook to their fully qualified names, it worked like a charm. In my instance, pop-server became pop-server.austin.rr.com, and smtp-server became smtp-server.austin.rr.com.

Working right now, as a matter of fact. I'd check your server names, and fully qualify them (i.e. add "mail.utexas.edu" to the end) if they aren't already. If they ARE, then I can't help you

. Good luck.

You're telling me you don't telnet to mail.utexas.edu?

Back when I was doing IT work from 95-97, that was usually the first thing I did to check an Internet connection, because the server was so damn fast. No one that I know of has a telnet server still up and running.

Ok, this is second hand from when my email did this a while back. I had the same problem, could receive emails fine, but couldn't send them. I called ITS, and they said for security reasons, only computers physically hooked into UTs system could send email from the mail.utexas.edu servers, and I had to change my outgoing server to my ISP's mail server. So now my incoming mail still comes in off of mail.utexas.edu, but my mail goes out over mail.grandecom.net. My email still says [email protected] when I send it, it just doesn't get sent over the UT server. Does that make sense?
