Mack's team culture

I did Team in Training last year and the Leukemia patient we trained and raced for was a pre-schooler named Russell. Here's a small snippet from his Caring Bridge Journal today that his parents post on to update friends and family:

"While in the hospital, Russell got a special visit from two of the Texas Longhorn football players!! Every Friday, a few of the players sign autographs and take pictures with the kids in the hospital lobby, and they also make a special trip up to the Oncology unit to visit some of the cancer kids in their rooms. They gave Russell a photograph of the Longhorn Football team with all their autographs, and had his picture taken with #6 Quan Cosby and #99 Roy Miller. He thought this was REALLY cool, but was even more blown away when he saw them playing Rice on T.V. the next night, and Quan made a touchdown!!! Just another great example of how these people go out of their way to take a kids mind off of being in the hospital for a little while!"

I'm sure other teams do this, but this kind of stuff just always seems to come with the territory with Mack. Some things are indeed more important than football.

Not only is Quan a great player, but he is a solid person and a great role model to the younger players on the team. We are so lucky to have that guy.

Yea, they SHOULD be out hunting wild hogs with spears whittled sharpened by their own teeth, but... I guess visiting cancer kids is good too.
