"When Coach Mack Brown took the Texas job on December 4, 1997, he had two immediate agenda items: talk Ricky Williams into returning to Texas and assemble a quality recruiting class in less than two months. Brown accomplished both quickly. Burnt Orange Beat chronicles the 1998 recruiting class."

I remember that early commitment of the Texcas City four. They got things started when a lot of enthusiasm and media attention. We have raised the bar on the talent level since since that class, but we owe them a debt of graditude.

The article barely mentioned Antwan Kirk-Hughes. He was a terrific player and a four year starter. He had limited upside and didn't make it to the pros, but he was really solid here for a long time. By contrast Mike Williams, who no doubt was a butt-kicker his junior and senior years, didn't play much before those two years.

It's funny looking back and thinking how "set" we were at RB once Ricky left with Ike and Robertson to spell Hodges Mitchell. And neither of them even finished their college careers at Texas.

That 1998 group put in a lot of hard work. They're clearly not as talented as any of our other Mack classes, but they made up for it in character. And other than Joyner, they didn't get in much trouble either.

Hodges Mitchell, one of my all time favorite un-sung favorites. His knee in that damn Cotton Bowl really sucked.

Dam Swine Flu!!!!!
