NC had to convert a fourth down after a penalty put it off schedule, but then continued with a TD pass on its first drive. 7-0

NC forces Syracuse to punt, and NC will start on its own 24. . . . Syracuse picks off NC pass and will start from NC 31 yard line. . . . NC holds Syracuse on fourth and one and takes over at its own 23. . . . Syracuse holds NC on downs and NC will punt from its own 26. Penalty on the return. Syracuse takes over at about its 28. . . . NC holds them again. Another punt coming. NC will start from its own 35. . . . End of first quarter with NC at 4th and 7 in Syracuse territory. Decision time. . . . Long FG try hits left upright. No good. . . . NC holds Syracuse on downs again. Defenses definitely ahead of offenses so far in this game. NC punt returner drops the punt and Syracuse recovers at NC 21. . . . Wide open Syracuse receiver lets pass go right through his hands in end zone. FG try is good. 7-3.

NC and Syracuse still trading possessions that go nowhere. A minute left in the first half. (Man, Mack needs to drop at least 20 pounds). NC roughs punter to keep Syracuse drive alive. Line of scrimmage is the 11. Field goal try with 7 seconds left in half. No good!! NC still leads 7-3 at half. . . . . Syracuse gets the ball to start the third quarter.

Syracuse intercepts NC again and has the ball just inside NC territory. Now at 45. . . .now down to the NC 29. Syracuse QB scrambles just inside NC 20--first down. QB scrambles again to the NC 4. . . . third and goal, still from the 4. QB tries to scramble but is sacked. 4th and goal from the 6. Field goal try. Good. 7-6. . . . NC make have waked up--driving inside the Syracuse 20. First down at the Syracuse 13. QB sacked on third down. Field goal try coming. 31 yard field goal good. 10-6. . . NC holds on Syracuse's next drive. . . .block in the back right next to the punt returner nullifies a punt return for a TD. NC starts from its 23. Pass complete to 38 yard line. Huge hole on the left side let runner through and he's all the way down to the Syracuse 16. Pass down to the three. First and goal for NC. First down run to the half yard line. End of the third quarter. NC scores to begin fourth quarter. 17-6. . . . Syracuse had to punt again. NC gets ball in decent field position.

Iowa st losing by 3 near the end of the third quarter at home to LaTech. La Tech also missed two field goals. surprisingly, iowa st just looks listless. Purdy is playing qb for iowa st.

Rajun Cajuns just took interception (? I missed the first part of the play) to the house. Watch out Iowa State.
It was actually a punt return, he fielded the ball and split two defenders (who didn't even try to tackle him) and ran it 85 yards for a td.
24-14 with 13 minutes left.

NC down to Syracuse six yard line. They run it in from there to score again. Syracuse is tired. 24-6. I think I'm gonna concentrate on Iowa State game now. . . . Now 31-6.

La tech is driving with 3 minutes left. Looks like they are going to win.
I'll give iowa st the benefit of a doubt and say they didn't throw this game. They looked bad
I hope we don't have a weird game like this one tonight. :idk:

Mack is rebuilding a very solid program at UNC, I suspect that someday there will be statues of him at two different stadiums, one in Austin and one in Chapel Hill. Very glad to see him so successful thus far in this second run at UNC.

i’ve been sitting here trying to remember this. I feel like fat Mack occurred after a good deal of success when he was at Texas (early 2000’s). He hasn’t won enough games at UNC yet, but I also have to be mindful that we’re dealing with re-re-rejuvenated Mack. There should probably be a graph with an XY axis to plot these things.

When they interviewed Mack pre-game, I thought he looked more at ease and happy than in his last four years at Texas. Younger, even.
