MacFarland taking a USC visit

Is Reggie Bush gonna "accidentally" call Pete Carroll's speakerphone while McFarland's in his office?

I am sure she could get a nice house in California. You can get 750,000 dollar houses for cheap in some places.

There was a recruiting guru from Rivals on 1560 today (his name wasn't familiar to me) commented on his trip to USC. Basically saying it was just to see LA and doubts that the Trojans are in play. Confirmed that the 2 candidates are Texas and ou with a lead in ou's favor widening.

What is the real problem here???

I have a hard time believing that anybody could not make up their mind between two schools that hate each other as much as Texas & ou. Are the schools, locations, coaching staffs & student bodies sooo similar that nobody in their right mind could cross that razor thin line & pick one over the other?????

Or is it that he has come to hate one so much that he feels the need to play them along until the last day so that he can really stick it to them with his announcement???

Inquiring minds want to know.

From what I've heard/read is that he really likes UT. However, he's developed a really good relationship with OU's defensive linemen coach.

Unfortunately I just think we may lose out on this one. There goes another 5* DT we could have used.

having a good relationship with a position coach is nice, but there are so many other things that are much more important in this decision. i was recruited out of high school, and i would never have made my decision based on a small piece of the puzzle. the school, the education, the city, the girls, the teammates, etc., etc., etc. are the important things. jamarkus, if you are reading this, COME TO TEXAS.

Well unfortunately for us, position coach does matter a lot. See CU.

They are the person who will be that player's mentor and father figure for the next stage of their life. When you get attached to one person it makes a huge difference.

Of course Mom could always put her foot down and tell her son to go to a school not on probation. But such is life.

I do not know about her mom making posts and she very well could have changed her mind. I would think it has more to do with the defensive linemen coach than the rest of the OU coaching staff.

Her initial comments were very positive about the entire UT coaching staff. The reason I don't include the coaching staff is primarily because of Stoops and his recruitment of Chase Pittman. He doesn't strike me as the kind of man that can really woo mom.

I've heard nothing bad mentioned about the linemen coach so I'm under the assumption that he is making a very large impact.

Yeah vtaenz, I remember cu . Tell me again how that worked out for the kid???

Unless an assistant is named Head Coach inWaiting, it would be pretty foolish to base your school choice on the hope that he won't be gone before you are.

Who knows why somebody decides to go to one school over another. This is no slam of McFarland, but Texas is in good shape with the defensive line recruits we have verbals from already, and if Kennard should come our way, that makes things even better.

I'd love for McFarland to choose Texas, but if he hasn't done so by now, I'm not gonna bet the rent he ever does. I won't wish him bad, I'd just say enjoy three or four years in Norman if that's what you choose for yourself. Texas is gonna be just fine either way.

Maybe when he finds out that USC coaches are jumping ship he will change his mind. - word is USC offensive coordinator is taking u-dub job.

^

you didn't read this whole post did you? He has no real interest in USC, just wanted to see LA.

I just find it disconcerting that we can't seem to land that all world 5* stud of a DT within our own state on a consistent basis. I remember when we landed Okam at the wire and then we had Miller away from OU.

Then we took a 180 with getting Dre Jones and then not getting him due to what he did.

I do agree though that Kennard would be huge. Huge.

<wait to the poster above, were you referring to Kennard or McFarland about USC?>

I see you guys aren't worried at all about McFarland taking a trip out to USC and you shouldn't be. This hardly registered on the USC boards, we know he just wanted a free trip and see another great program but has no real interest in USC. It's a Texas/Oklahoma battle although wasn't LSU in the mix?

We will get Kennard though. So don't get your hopes up on him.

the sooners are saying he is going to commit to them within the next 48 hours.... if true, talk about injury to insult.
