ok data transfer
I just got my Macbook back from the apple store, after having the stuff transferred from my old one. My old one was dropped/grabbed wrong and the display was all ****** up and eventually didn't work at all.

Anyway, none of my old music and photos are showing up in iTunes or IPhoto. WTF am I missing here?

this would be easy if you had a pc

they just work

How did you transfer the data?

There's the migration assistant with a direct firewire connection between the two computers. This is usually foolproof.

You can also do it from a Time Machine backup either wirelessly or through a wired connection. Warning though. If you do it wirelessly iTunes and iPhoto seem to get dropped all the time and it takes forever. Doing it through a wired connection though does it right.

The issue was that the old data was under a different user acct. than the one I'd logged in on the new one.

Duh.

You can do it wirelessly but it takes several hours. Make sure both Macs are connected to the same network, then open Migration Assistant on both computers (you can search for it in the Finder). Then follow the instructions.
