M. Night Shyamalan is...

I liked 6th Sense, but most of his other movies that I have seen remind me of a flight of stairs that leads to a brick wall.

He peaked with The Sixth Sense and each movie he's put out since then has been worse than the one before. For him to lower the bar further after The Happening, he's got his work cut out ahead of him.

I haven't seen The Happening, but I find it hard to believe that he's made a worse movie than Lady in the Water.

I actually liked all of his flicks until Lady in the Water:

Didn't bother to spend my hard earned $$ on The Happening.

yeah, lady in the water is the worst, the happening right after that...at least it had some suspense with some people jumping off buildings but the punchline at the end was truly comical. i didnt see it in the theatre but i can imagine the entire theatre laughing hyterically, i would have been.

unbreakable is sort of ok. great premise. but the climax is horrible.

signs was ok. but things like "swing away..." took it to turdville.

Surely there are galactic aggy out there unable to make raincoats or breathing equipment.

Agree with those giving praise to Unbreakable. Outside of that and 6th Sense and maybe a little praise for the Village, the rest of his movies have sucked donkey balls.

I thought Signs was a decent film also.

MNS seems to have potentially interesting story lines in many of his films, but he usually finds a way to muck them up.

I liked signs a lot as well. I think it works better if you view the "aliens" not as aliens but demons. I think the movie was all about Mel Gibson's crisis of faith as a preacher, and if you look at the aliens as a demonic metaphor and water as purification, and the return of faith he had to muster in the end to allow events to unfold the way they did, it becomes a much more understandable and plausible movie.

I think he needs to do a Creep Show style show. King used to get some of his smaller ideas out in this manner. Somethings are just made to be shorter segments or short stories vs. novels or full length feature films. That is all.

Sixth Sense was very good, but I didn't find the ending to be a hugely unexpected twist. Unbreakable was pretty good. Signs was awful, and I haven't been at all tempted to see any of his other movies.

I have no doubt but that The Last Airbender will be dreadful.

I watched some of the happening last night based on all the good vibes I got on it from this thread. the few minutes I watched were garbage. not a fan of marky mark either when he tries to be a "dramatic" actor.

I likewise caught part of The Happening on cable last night. It was "I'd-rather-thrust-hot-needles-through-my-eyes" bad.
