Lux Interior-R.I.P.

Such a bummer.

He looked best when he was post 50 as his ghoulish persona needed the weather on the leather to make it pitch perfect.

Sucks.

I am not really a huge Cramps fan, but I do have and regularly enjoy several of their albums. He was an Akron boy, like myself, and his love of the old counter-culture, Mad Magazine, 'Stay Sick,' teen-rocker-beach-party monster movies, and straight up rock and roll burlesque is very close to my heart. Like the old master, I grew up watching those monster flicks on shows like the Ghoul (who took over for Ghoulardi (Ernie Anderson, director P.T. Anderson's pop)), Superhost, and Hoolihan and Big Chuck. You know, friday night scare fests with cheap TV studio lighting from below, bad gags and rubber chickens, looking up from Spy vs. Spy or Don Martin or Dave Berg to see 'The Horror of Party Beach' and monsters like giant mudskippers attacking a slumber party.

The world gets less cool every day.

Sleep well, old fiend, you earned it.

Really a shame for him to kick off so soon. The Cramps were a true original, even while melding various other influences. I bet the Flametrick Subs here in Austin are in deep mourning, as well the Rev. Horton Heat should be. R.I.P.

Bad music for bad people, man. I am not a huge fan either but i appreciated the independence and DYI attitude of Lux and the Cramps. That asthetic and model informs nearly all the music and bands i enjoy emmensely these days. So props to that.
