I just noticed this place in midtown and want to know if anyone has tried it yet. Apparently it is owned by the son of the owner of Luling City Market on Richmond.

Article about it.

While I was looking for information I found this article discussing The City Market (in Luling) and how Luling City Market came about. To me it makes a lot of sense in the time table of when Luling City Market used to be great (80s) and when it started heading down hill (mid 90s), now the only thing there worth a damn is the sausage and sauce.

i didnt know there was one in midtown, i have been to the richmond location many times...it is pretty good for city bbq, i like the sausage and chicken...imo, it is the best bbq in the urban area of houston.

i hit the one in midtown just out of curiosity not long after it opened. i recall that the sausage was in the style of city market in luling, only drier and less tasty. the brisket was neither moist nor tender and was a huge disappointment. i was there at noon on a friday, so its not like i came in at an off time. yet they served me dried out scraps. the ribs i had were the best thing that day, probably as good as ive had in houston, but that isnt saying much. sauce was similar to city market in luling or lcm on richmond. but on that **** brisket, it couldnt do much.

about the only other plus was the unsweet tea, which is something i like.

i also felt the prices were exorbitant for the quality. i would have been happy to pay for something that makes me feel like i was in luling or lockhart. hell, id probably cut off a finger or toe to have the real thing here in houston, but this place was not worth 15$ for about 1/3 lb each of sausage, ribs & brisket with some tea.

despite having serious bbq cravings in the last few months, i have not been back to this place. id rather go to goode co, and i dont particularly like goode co.

I was meeting some frinds from out of town that were staying with relatives in the Montrose-- they wanted bar be cue-- I asked a friend about where to eat in that area-- he said Goode Co on Kirby over city market--- Goode co is a neat place-- good que-not great but better than anything within 45 minutes of Montrose

Spring has a new Rudy's on I-45-- good bar be que-- but the smoked turkey breast is the best I have ever had-- moist-- cheaper than driving from Spring to Bellville or Eagle Lake to take care of a craving

I've had some brought to me-- I don't hit that part of town too often

Red River in League City and Joe's in Alvin both have superb BBQ. Not in Houston, but still much closer than Eagle lake or Bellville.

just in case anybody was still planning on heading to lcm in midtown for some mediocre bbq, it appeared to be closed as i drove past it on gray today.

Confirmed closed. Me and a couple of peeps from my band were playing there every Thursday, but alas, it did not catch on quickly enough I guess.

That place is closed? It opened for 1 month?
wtf.gif

If someone could put Kruetz in that location, I would eat there twice a day.

Austin's in Eagle Lake-- many a good duck and goose hunt have ended there-- the sliced brisket sandwich goes about 1/2 a lb and costs 4.99. All desserts are made there-- get there early for the Banana Pudding

In Bellville-- the Smokehouse--great sausage made onsite
