just saw this on the TV, no link yet, but LSU is not going to play this week due to the aftermath of the hurricane.....

other than localized flooding, wont most of the residents be back in the cities by Saturday? Why not just make it a 8pm kickoff to give everyone time to get back into town over the next 3 days?

Baton Rouge got hit pretty hard. I heard there is something like 800,000 people w/o power for as long as the next two weeks. Infrastructure damage I know little about though.

I was watching the Ch. 6 (NO) feed on satellite... some LSU buildings have power, some don't (the fieldhouse and PMAC are running on generators). There are a lot of trees down in BR, debris blocking roads, etc.

Maybe they could have a game Saturday, but it sounds like there is more important work to do.

They may not have all the power turned on back then. Furthermore, many players are probably more focused on helping their families recover in the immediate aftermath of the storm. I think it is wise to put off this game for a while, and keep things in proper perspective.

To echo Pentconta's reply, we have family in BR and they got hit harder than anyone else. It caught all by surprise because BR was a shelter site for evacuees. Most of the area has no power and streets are blocked with debris, power lines down and I don't see how they could have pulled off a game. It is a shame.

also a lot of looting going on i hear... or so my sister who just walked in the door told me. (3 of her friends made it back only to find everything in their places gone)

A lot of the Katrina evacuees settled in Baton Rouge and parts around there. Crime has gone up considerably and yes, I know of some people there that got looted too. It was sort of common, sadly.

Many of their fans won't be able to make it to the game as they are fixing things at home or roads are still messed up. It is not just as simple as getting the stadium and Tiger Town going. Getting to Nicholson St. will be tough for many.
