Lowe's or Home Depot?

Home Depot- most employees have their thumbs you know where. Prices are the lowest.
Lowe's- People are friendly and prices are competitive. Employees are always eager to help.
I'm going to Lowe's. What about you?

I like Home Depot because Iv'e gone there longer and know the layout better. Never really had too many problems with employees not being helpful except at the one on 620 near Lakeway where I was forced to cuss some ******* out because he rolled his eyes after I asked him a second question about the same item while he was trying to make keys.

I used to like Lowe's until they decided to go ahead and build on Brodie in Sunset Valley. Now I will patronize Home Depot exclusively...

whats the problem with building there? If you boycotted every buisness that built a store somewhere you don't like, then.. well I don;t know what to tell you.

We'll they both sponser NASCAR....I don't like Tony Stewart. However, gotta give the nod to Home Depot due to Joe Gibbs Racing.

Iamtiger...
What I don't get is that you don't like Lowe's building on
Brodie in Sunset Valley yet you say you will patronize Home Depot who has had a store about two blocks from there, still in Sunset Valley, for about 15 years. Now Home Depot has abandoned it's original store, built a huge one right behind it and left the old fading orange building they moved out of standing as a huge eyesore. I don't mind either one being there but I am not getting your take on it.

I'm not exclusive to either one--both have their pros and cons.

In general I've found that Lowes is more intelligently laid out, better lit, and easier to find what you're looking for in a hurry (HD is apparently spending hundreds of millions to update their stores across the country so they'll be more user-friendly & not so warehouse like). Unfortunately whatever time savings you get from finding things faster at Lowes are wiped out by the fact that they never have more than 2 or 3 checkstands open at a time.

The self checkout areas at HD seem like a good idea but I think I've only had the thing work properly twice, the rest of the time I've had to stand there & wait for the lady to come over from the little island & scan it with her little gun to get the correct price. When they work they're awesome but when they don't they're the most frustrating things ever.

I'm close enough to the Lowe's & HD that are by 620/183 that it really doesn't matter to me. If I've got time I'll check out both places. If I'm working on a project & discover that I need a 2 1/2" number 10 wood screw I'll usually go to HD because it's closer. But if I'm shopping for a ceiling fan or light fixture or something that's going to be displayed I tend to end up getting it from Lowe's. Also, the Lowe's up there is much closer to great little fast food joints like Schlotzsky's, Whataburger & Fazzolis so I can grab a quick bite while I'm running my errands.

I used to usually drive past Home Depot to go to Lowe's because Lowe's generally had more people working and more checkout stands open. Then Home Depot opened the self-checkout stands. The one time I've been to Lowe's since then I had to wait 10 minutes to check out. I haven't been back.

I like Lowe's much better, but I can't really give a reason, other than it just feels better. Anyway, now that the new one is just across Mopac from my house, it's no contest.

I can tell you this much. I bought 10 items a few months back at Lowe's because it was convenient to where I was located at that time of day.

The total bill was right at $400.00. Ironically, later that day I needed something small and found myself near Home Depot. I still had my receipt from Lowe's. So I did some price checking. Lowe's was significantly higher on 9 out of the 10 items. I went back to Lowe's and received $91.00 back.

Since then I have never set foot in Lowes.

Keep comments coming...... be specific and give locations please. Makes it easier to go yell at people b/c they're not doing their job!

I've compared products at the two stores off 6-10 N and, generally, Lowes is cheaper and has some things Home Depot did not, but the service at Lowes sucks.

HD is better if you already know exactly what you need, where it is, and are careful to open what you buy before you buy it to see if it has been cannabalized.

Lowe's:

Gardening
Outdoor items
Paint
Lighting
Fixtures

Home Depot:
Electrical
Pesticides/Herbicides
Lumber
Irrigation

Service: Lowe's, hands-down.

The Lowe's and Home Depot on IH-35 and Parmer is were we shop. They both have positives and negatives. It's just went you need some help that the Lowe's makes a great difference. The Lowe's people smile and are happy to be working also they help you. The Home Depot people have their cellphones on and are receiving calls whenever I am in the store. "Hello, I need to know where the treated lumber is??" Home Depot employee: "Can you hold on." This while putting their finger up like talking to a child.

I am not sure if most Home Depot's are this way, but Parmer and 35 swings like that.
