fat guy here. just got an over 40 physical, blood glucose level is 38, nurse said we're going to check it again before acting. How bad is this? Does diet help?
I have been working out for just about two weeks now. I have a lot more energy than I had before.
80-120 is normal. anything under 40 is considered insulin shock.
are you diabetic and take insulin?
did you not eat anything for a while before your physical?
did you participate in any strenuous activity before the test?
it could be due to the 14.5 hours or a testing error.
but ya at 38 you would have had some pretty noticeable symptoms, like you were drunk or something.
if it was 38 and they didnt do anything you have some ****** healthcare providers. they should have taken another test immediately and if that was still very low, started IV glucose
update: retest was 75, but that was eating a healthy breakfast about four hours before test.
Interesting that you mention drunkenness symptoms. I have had that before many times, but always attributed it to sleep apnea.
I had the sleep apnea Surgery in December '07, and my sleeping has improved considerably, but I do sometimes get that drunk feeling. I'm guessing the glucose reading was real, but that day I had no symptoms.
Could it be that I have been feeling the drunk feeling for so long, that I don't even recognize the feeling?
Also, that my 5-6 hours of sleep is so much better than before that glucose appears to not be a factor in how I feel?
