He is a 247 industry-composite 3-star ranked #365. He is a top-500 3-star on rivals and scout, and a top-300 4star on ESPN and 247. He decommitted while on an OV to us. He is a 6-5, 210 athlete who was expected to play LB, DE or WR. There is also some report (Geoff Ketchum tweet) that this is a mutual decision, which would make sense in the case of decommitments during an OV. The staff probably told him the plans for him, and that is probably not what he wants, and he decommitted.
Though there was no talk about this, I think some recruit gurus probably knew that this was coming, as they were hinting of a couple of decommitments like this to happen before NSD. Decommitments never feel good, but I am actually rather fine that it is a "position yet to be decided" guy who decommitted rather than one who is at a real need position.
There is also chatter that he was one of the grade and qualification risks that everybody knew of. He had sent a tweet last Monday "Got all my tests out of the way. College ready now" which was curious. Not sure if he was covering up something. If something came up and they know he won't make it, I am sure the coaches would ask him to do it on his own, rather than give reasons. Just a possibility.
This may also mean that the staff is more sold on Breckyn Hager as the DE/LB that they are looking for inn this class. Louis Brown is from 2A and would need a redhsirt year to put on weight and get playing time, I suppose.
Anyway, move on to the next one. Opens up another spot to use, which may not be a bad thing in the end.
Different recruiting guys like Bob Burton, Geoff Ketchum and Jason Higdon are all insisting that this was some "mutual parting". The Baylor 247 Mod probably threw out the most possible reason (he would know a bit, as Brown was committed to Baylor for a while before he suddenly switched to us) -- something about his mother not wanting him anywhere near some other person's influence or something. He may have to go far away from central Texas for his own sake. Some stuff like that. Does not seem to be grades or anything that the Texas staff did or said to him. Sounds murky, but anyway, like they say "he gone!".
Maybe another open spot....don't know how to read this, with the Irvin situation. Maybe he said adios...maybe we did....I cannot believe grades had anything to do with than a month left to signing day...surely our recruiters are more on point than this
There is some more stuff going around at the recruiting site, generally indicating that there were some issues that happened last night (may be in an outing we didn't organize?) which may have caused Texas to "mutually" agree to part. Louis Brown does not seem to want to talk about it, as one site tried to ask him, and it seems Texas is not interested in talking about what happened either. One site said he might have posted something on instagram that was hardly helpful to himself. None of the rumors or reports say that UT had anything to do with what happened, but the decommitment was not something Brown decided by himself to do, and it wasn't in response to anything UT did that upset him. Anyway, looks like the staff had no choice but to "mutually agree" that it is better for him to look elsewhere. Unless anything official comes out, I guess this is all we will know, and we will have to leave it at that.
Hey, I was trying to avoid saying it, as it is a rumor, and damning for the young man, if true. But now you have gone and done it! It seems some instagram appeared at night in which he was drunk and talking BS too, in another report. Sad, if true and he threw away a scholarship to The University of Texas.
The tail he could have had on a steady and rotating basis being a player on the field FAR trumps anything at the Yellow Rose. He is that Bull that rushes down the hill to get with the ladies below instead of taking his time and being with all of them.
