Lost By Week

I am sorry if there is already a thread out there regarding this. Thinking about the injury to Irby, and living in Houston, got me to thinking about the importance of a bye week. I cuold be wrong but starting with the Rice game, Texas plays 9 straight weeks.

I was just wondering if any of you feel that this will be a problem down the road for us, or if there are any of you that feel this will help keep momentum going throughout the season.

HOOK EM!!

I don't think it's a big deal.

In 2005 we played in 7 straight weeks. In both of the last two seasons, 2006 and 2007, we played in 11 straight weeks to start the season.

This year we will now play in 9 straight weeks instead of 7. It has to be done with the 12 allowed games and the calendar restrictions.

I'm of the opinion that we need our team to strongly establish a rhythm going into the upcoming stretch starting Oct 4th thru Nov 1. I was very concerned to see that we had a bye going into the CU game & with blOwU right behind that, we don't typically do well following a bye against better opponents. So I feel better seeing that we get Rice & Piggy the two weekends prior to the Five Games from Hell part of our schedule.

If no Arkansas postponement, then Irby gets hurt in week#4. Is he still able to get the medical redshirt? If not, then the "bye" gets us an extra year of Irby. That's worth it.

Technically, it is not a medical redshirt. That is an extra year of eligibilty tacked on due to injury after you have used your redshirt year and are injured at the beginning of another season. It has to be granted by the NCAA. This will be his redshirt season, used under similar circumstances, i.e. injury in the first part of the season.

I agree about not looking good coming out of a bye week. I feel like a lot of teams look out of it when they come off a break, so maybe the lost bye will just help us stay in rhythm.

We do have a bye week. It's called "Baylor."

Well i wouldn't put Baylor in aggies class right away. Griffin is a top notch athlete and if he happens to get some help around him they may not be the powder puffs of the past. Plus there defense is playing much better ball this year.
