LOST 3/23

A friend of mine's theory...SPOILERS below so if you haven't seen this latest episode don't read further:

They are sons of some sort of diety. MIB is pure evil. The deity created the island to keep MIB bottled up and sent his brother, “Jacob”, there to ensure he stays bottled up. These brothers are bored - MIB wants to leave, Jacob knows he can’t leave since he has to protect humanity, so Jacob selfishly brings people to the island to prove a point to his brother, that people are fundamentally good. So even though Jacob is “better” than MIB he is still bringing people to the island that are getting killed, in the grand scheme of things.

The Dharma initiative, the Others, and the rest of the history is all a fallout of that basic fundamental premise.

Thoughts?

So, what conclusions did you draw from this episode?

Is everyone dead? We know that they did find an airplane underwater with all the dead bodies on board several seasons ago.

Is the island Hell, as Richard said, or is it just the gateway to Hell, (as Jacob seemed to suggest) and one of the candidates will be the new gate keeper, or maybe it's purgatory and if they don't stop the MiB from leaving they will go to Hell as Hurley said Isabella told him?

^
Widmore faked the airplane under water thing. He didn't want other people to find the island while they were looking for the plane.

I'm frustrated and overthinking this show now. So Richard was Jacob's liason with the people he brought to the island. OK, then why was Richard one of the "others" who killed the Dharma folks? Was that Jacob's pan? If Jacob brought Jack, Hurley, Kate etc. to the island as candidates, which in my mind indicates that they at least are not enemies of Jacob, it sure never seemed, at least in the first few seasons, that Richard was acting as a liason between them and Jacob.

And, if everybody comes to the island because Jacob brings them, does that mean that Jacob brought the US military and the hydrogen bomb?

There's a theory out there that the energy that was released and then trapped under the Swan station was part of this evil energy. I believe the glyphs on the countdown timer translated to "Underworld". Maybe that's why pushing the button was considered "Saving the world"

In the alternate universe, the island was underwater ... does this mean the cork was blown in that universe? or did the H-Bomb destroy the evil so that the island was no longer needed?

"or did the H-Bomb destroy the evil so that the island was no longer needed?"

Do we know for sure the bomb exploded? If so, how did so many in the proximity of the blast survive, including a woman actually touching the bomb when it exploded?

I thought what the MIB said to Richard about killing Jacob was interesting in that it was the same thing asian temple dude said to Syid about killing not Locke...Stab him in the chest but do not let him say anything to you. If he does, it will be too late.

That's right, I remember that now. Which kind of does beg the question as to why he was surprised to see Richard and why he didn't know who he was. However, since he never interfered, it would seem that he's living in that remote area for the express purpose of hiding from the people who come there. So it would be safe to assume that Richard was the first person that he ever had direct face to face contact with on the island. Also makes you wonder if the six that he contacted this time around were the first ones that he ever visited on the mainland and addressed directly - if they're supposed to be his replacements, then that would make sense as well.

I dont like reading theories because they have potential to spoil things for me.. So I didnt read anything you guys wrote. But this episode compelled me to write something..

COMPLETELY AWESOME. That was easily one of the best LOST episodes ive ever seen. It was almost its own movie inside of the show.. Simply brilliant.

It had the love, the background story, the twist and turns, no worthless plot points, emotional ties.. just.. everything.

The ending was awesome too. Who ever wrote this one should write the finale. Because that was a brilliant hour of TV.
