LOST 3/2

Kate is tagging along, at least. I don't get the impression that she is part of the damned, yet. Particularly since Claire is gunning for her.

I'm interested in the implication that next week Ben will "face his demise" (note that doesn't mean he will die, rather that he will face his death). I can't believe that they are going to kill such an iconic character with 11 hours left in the season. That said, since stabbing Jacob, he has not had a purpose on the island... which is to say, there really doesn't seem to be any real good reason to keep him around from the story's stand point... and there are a ridiculous number of people we have to keep track of right now. I dunno, we'll see.

I think it is just a little too predictable that Sayid has committed so wholly to the darkside. This is a character who was always trying to find redemption, and yet had a compulsion to torture and kill. I'm unclear what the nature of his infection is (or his reincarnation, for that matter), but I find the notion of an "evil detector" to be lame even for this show. Sayid has been pretty criminal under utilized the last couple of seasons, so I'm excited to get him back into the mix... that said, there is an element to this I'm not quite buying.

So where the hell was Sawyer for the second week in a row? He wasn't even in the creepy lineup at the end. To me, answering the questions of the island (Jacob/FLocke) are much less interesting to me than understanding how the main cast relates to them. It appears as though the characters are lining up as pawns right now, and I hope this goes another way. We've built up 5 seasons of background on these individuals, to insert them as solely chess pieces in the final game would be a let down for me.

I'm enjoying the last season. We haven't reached the endgame yet, but I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Agree with your take on Sayid, mia. I just knew he was going to kill the Asian boss. Who/What is behind Flocke? Is it some entity that has been on the Island a long time? Or is the Jacob/Essau theory the concensus?

As to Sawyer, I was also surprised they left him out again. He's got to be in the jungle somewhere since he left the temple.

They do seem to be paring down the extraneous characters for the finale - the temple being eradicated; this season's new participants exterminated.

Which sets up the fundamental characters for the final showdown; being manipulated, sure, but according to their tendencies. My impression is that both Sayid and Kate appear to be solidly independent; that while Sayid followed fLocke's command, it was according to Sayid's tendency. Whether he would similarly fight Jack is another question.

Considering that the next episode seems to be about Ben, I wonder if this is the time to bring Widmore back into the story or if he will be part of the endgame. Can't imagine that he's out of the story, although I suspect that Eloise has run her course.

What's up with the island under the ocean? Is that foreshadowing the end result of our current island events that will result in the outcome of the current alternate timeline being reality?

So the ancient Samurai was actually a (fairly) modern day Japanese banker. They must have some advanced kung fu training on the island.

I still think that Sawyer is playing the long con on evil locke.

Nobody's mentioned anything about Jack's appendix scar - it looks like that at least in some ways, the two realities are overlapping, and it would appear that it's starting at the point of the flight. I'm curious whether those two realities are converging or simply leaking together.

BTW, does the fact that Claire is on Flocke's side cement the idea that the Christian apparition was not working with Jacob? It seems that since we now know that Christian's body was missing, he might have been used as a previous manifestation of the smoke monster?

Perhaps Jacob is trying to bring them to the island and keep them there in excchange for healing their "wounds", whether they be physical (Locke) or psychological (Jack). Flocke/Essau may want them in the alt-timeline where he promised them ? to fulfill their wishes.
I dunno.

I'm LOST
.

Just to jump back for a second, when Christain told Ben to turn the wheel to move the island - was that really Flocke telling him to do that?

We know that FLocke's goal was to take Locke's body. We know that FLocke was part of the plot to get Locke to leave the island (when he forces Richard to bandged Locke's wounds). We know that Christian was the one who ultimately helped Locke finish the job of turning the wheel. Either "Christian" is an agent of Jacob who had the same goal as FLocke, or "Christian" was solely an agent of FLocke (if not FLocke himself). Either way, 'Christian' helping Locke in that circumstance ultimately helped the plan for Flocke to kill Jacob.

I can only recall three other ghosts off the top of my head. Echo's brother, Alex (threatening Ben) and Horace Goodspeed. Echo's brother and Alex were in no uncertain terms manifestations of the smoke monster. Horace Goodspeed was the one who set Locke on the path which ultimately killed him. I'm inclined to believe that all 4 were the smoke monster.

Actually, this brings up a good point, we saw Alex as an apparition of the smoke monster telling Ben he must do what FLocke said. Which is say, we saw smokey take another form AFTER FLocke appeared on the island. So I guess that means, if FLocke really only can take Locke's form now, then it has something to do with Jacob's death and not how FLocke took Locke's form.

I sure hope this isn't some St. Elsewhere type ending where the ending scene is Hurley in the nut house imagining everything that had taken place the last 6 years.

Re: the speculation that Sawyer might be running the longest con...

I suggested the same thing on the thread about "running list..."

There has been a running theme in the show about people having to convince others to do something on their own free will. Sayid taking the pill, Ben killing Jacob, etc. Who is the most qualified person on the island to con someone into doing something against their will?
