Lost - 2/4

No surprise that Ben is basically manipulating people to go back to the island - the trick with the lawyer was an all-time low for sure!

Interesting revelation that apparently the time sickness is related to having been on the island in the past at some point.

If you're sick of the time jumping, why are you watching the show? That is the premise of the entire story! It's not going to change any time soon.

I'd say it's coming together pretty quickly this season. We now know that at one time you had a group of people on the island - maybe former military - which included Whitmore and that other guy whose name escapes me (Richard?). Apparently they were there for atomic experiments, but discovered the miraculous qualities of the island. My guess is that at that point you get two basic ideas of what to do - Whitmore wants to exploit the island and Richard(?) wants to protect it. For one reason or another, Whitmore left the island and has been searching for it ever since, but has been unable to find it. My guess is that he was running the Dharma initiative against the wishes of the "others", whom he basically ran off into the jungle. Along comes Ben, who upsets the entire apple cart by killing everyone in the Dharma initiative. At that point, Richard(?) starts looking for Locke, who we know know had met him before Dharma ever came into being.

We also know that the group that was selected to go find the island (Charlotte, Faraday, Miles) have all been on the island at some point in their lives (coincidentally? probably not). Faraday apparently had been researching the island's properties for Whitmore, which is why I'm not completely sure that Whitmore was the guy running the Dharma initiative and doing the research on the island (since it looked as if Faraday wasn't exactly welcome there.)

Anyway, I think a lot of things are starting to gain focus. My guess is that most of those answers aren't going to ultimately show up until the final three or four episodes.

Oh, and here's another thought - we now know Miles has been on the island, even though he doesn't remember it. How does this relate to the Others taking another "special" kid, namely Walt, and then the issue with the babies on the island dying.

Were they actively looking to "breed" kids with those special abilities? Were they simply trying to assemble kids with special gifts to see the effects of the island? I'm curious about that...

Oh, and also it's very cool that the totally random visits by Richard to see Locke, where he offers him all those different possessions and asks if he owns them. Apparently, Locke really DID own them, and Richard thinks that Locke ought to somehow remember this subconsciously.

And, we now know that Jin is still alive since he washed up with the French folks and Rousseau in the past. And Locke,Sawyer, Faraday and others just landed on the beach with recently washed up french wreckage. So Jin is traveling in the same time warp as those guys.

and, you know Desmond is going back to the island. when he said "why on earth would i want to go back", you knew he was there.

Penny's dad's name is Charles Widmore (no t's present).

And what's going on with Aaron. Malkin told Claire to leave and not to let anyone else raise the baby... I've read somewhere he might have been trying to say "don't let an other" raise the baby, but i don't know about that one. Then he's giving her money and telling her there's a family in LA. Anyway, something is up. Jack's dad, Aaron's grandfather is all over the place. Claire has been in the cabin with him.
Trivia
Nicknamed "Turniphead" by Charlie.

* In the 2004 Japanese anime film Howl's Moving Castle, the character Turniphead (who is a scarecrow) turns out to be a missing prince who was under a witch's spell.

Now, someone tell me he name of last night's episode??

The point about Aaron is a good one and one that obviously is going to be addressed. I hadn't really thought about it being related to his real father, but that's interesting. It brings up a point of confusion for me - I have always assumed that the manifestations that people see are being generated by the island. But then Claire tells Kate NOT to bring Aaron back to the island, which is of course what is supposed to happen per the island's instructions. (Or at least we assume those are the island's instructions.) We also know that no one else is supposed to be raising Aaron, and Jack got a visit saying as much. So why is Kate not getting that same message, and why is she being discouraged from returning Aaron to his mother?

Very curious...

what about the previous cast members whose characters died and are no longer on the show. Does the time jumping apply to them as well?

Oh btw, Penny and Desmond's kid is named Charlie, after the heroin hobbit, but we all know that they're going to be stuck on the island, and lil Charlie Hume is going to flash back in time, take his mother's name and grow up to be Charles Widmore... and end up being his own grandfather.

battleship I don't think that's right. I seem to remember Claire being told that she can't let anyone else raise the kid. The whole point was that she wanted to put him up for adoption and she was told not to do it.

So if they're jumping around in time, is it possible for them to run into themselves? If so, will they explode? Isn't that the old Star Trek matter/anti-matter argument? Or will they pull the old Back to the Future crap about "if you interact with yourself, you can change the future as we know it! Great Scott!"

I guess no one in the world is suprised Jin is alive! (except perhaps Sun). If ever there was a network television cliche, this is it. The return of the previously dead character.

Anways -- so, the instances in past episodes where the main characters hid while "the others" walked by (we only see their feet as they go by) -- these are perhaps these same characters in another time/space dimension trying to sneak through the bushes unseen? In other words, reverse the scene of time-traveling Sawyer watching Kate/Claire. Maybe.

What exactly is Sun's plan? Simply find Ben and kill him?

Ellie is cute when she makes that face (but someone should teach her how to hold a gun). The casting folks have done a nice job on this show of placing attractive women.

Assuming there is surf, fresh water and food, I dont think I would want to leave that island either.

Question about the time jumping...

I'm pretty sure it has been happening since season one....we just didn't know it at the time.

Isn't it possible that everything we thought was a "ghost" or "dream" or a "hallucination" was in fact, another time warp?

-Walt
-the Polar Bear
-Richard
-The other that gets killed all the time but never dies
-The drug smuggler and his brother and the wrecked plane
-Claire
-Jack's Dad
-Desmond

Also, the bloody noses.

Think the time traveling is why babies cannot survive on the island? They simply cannot handle the trauma or whatever it is that cause the nose bleeds.

I wonder if the smoke monster is also a time traveler? Whatever happened to that beast? If this show ends without any explanation about the smoke monster, that will just be crappy. Sort of like the three toed statue and some of the other stuff that just has been totally dropped.

I read something about the smoke monster getting more play. Maybe tonite. I hope it doesnt turn out to be Michael Phelps.

I read a TV Guide article mentioning how certain questions will be answered this season, and other questions will remain until next season. The three toed statue will be addressed next season.
