a lighthouse with the ability to monitor people? did not see that one coming.

Also didn't see it coming that some of the guys would be safer outside the temple.

questions answered? they've been answering questions with more questions!

Guess the Christian Shephard appearances were Not-Locke the whole time.

Yeah, it is starting to look like Christian was Smokey all along. We know Smokey prior to Not-Locke was capable of shape shifting, we saw him do it with Echo. Most of the time we have seen Christian after the first season he has been associated with the cabin, which we have repeatedly established was Smokey's house. Christian was the first person Claire saw post crazies (telling her the same misinformation that Not-Locke did), and he was the one who sent Locke back to die.

I think the lighthouse is further proof that Jacob was enacting someone (or someTHING) else's will, and that the powers extend beyond the players we've seen.

On a separate note, do we presume a correlation in the timing of Jacob's stabbing death--in which he got blood on his hands while clutching the wound--and the bloody hands of the little boy when he first appeared to Not-Locke?

The thing that intrigues me the most in “The Lighthouse” episode is the riddle of Jack’s appendix.

In the flash-sideways, Jack takes off his shirt, sees an appendectomy scar and asks his mother when his appendix was removed. She replies, “when you were 7 or 8, don’t you remember?” He replies, “I guess”.

In the original timeline, Juliet removed Jack’s appendix on the island. So, in the flash-sideways, Jack boarded 815 with no appendix, but in the original timeline, he still had it. That proves that in the flash-sideways timeline, the characters lives past and present were not the same as in the original timeline. I expected their lives to be identical up to the point of the takeoff of 815.

By the way, just to put it out there... I think either the bloody boy, or Jacob is actually Aaron. I'm just saying.

I've participated in that thread. That said, Jack's appendix has just become the "oldest" thing effected by the switch.

Poking around on Lostpedia, I found a thread listing many differences between flash-sideways and original timelines.

The Link

Obviously the flash-sideways isn't just a "what would have been if 815 didn't go down" scenario.

The H-Bomb exploding in the past could have altered the events that lead up to the present time, in the alternate universe, such as Ben being a teacher instead of on the island, Ethan being a doctor instead of being an Other. Certain occurances by those "Others" being off the Island could contribute to Jack having a son and other differences.

I'm not sure if the cabin was Smokey's house, but it would make sense if Smokey took the form of Christian, as Claire dumped the baby because of Christian, and now they are friends? (Claire & Smokey)? It kinda makes sense that was Smokey the entire time. He was probably able to enter the cabin because there was a gap in the ash circle. (one of Llana's guardian friends noticed this gap)

I'm fairely sure he was the one influencing Montand (Rousseau's husband), Claire ... hence this sickness.

Since we know that Jacob was watching/ influencing the passengers of Oceanic 815 a long time before the flight, it seems to me that the flash-sideways is what happens without Jacob's influence.
