Losing the longhorn network

I have directv because of Long horn network. I have the streaming and don't care for them and plan to leave this week. How about a discussion on what would be the best provider to get longhorn games? Both baseball, basketball and volleyball and of course football. I noticed Hulu has SEC network. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

LHN will be gone soon anyway so best bet going forward will be some sort of SEC Network and ESPN + subscription to get baseball, volleyball etc. that used to be on LHN.

What he said. You're basically not going to be able to access much unless you get ESPN+ combined with the multiple SECN+ iterations through a cable/streaming provider. I think pretty much every streaming service (YouTube TV, Hulu Live, DirecTV Stream, Sling) has the SEC Network and all of its offshoots for multiple programs at once. This was helpful for switching between multiple baseball games during the Super Regionals last year.

ESPN will also throw it to the SECN+ channels if a game runs over on the main channel. A&M was playing someone in football on ESPN last year and they had to start the game on SECN+ because whatever game was before it ran over time.

I bundle the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ on one account.

Sling and YouTube have recording functions but they're kind of limited. On Sling, you have to pay for anything above 50 hrs, but it saves forever. On YouTube, you can record anything and everything you want with no limit, but they're auto-deleted after a certain amount of time. And that amount of time depends on the network. Some recordings vanish after 3 months, but it varies.

I believe sling is the cheapest. Unless you pay extra for DVR space.
I just erased stuff that I don't want to keep and there's very few things that I want to keep for very long.

We will be switching from Spectrum Cable to either YouTubeTV or fubo as soon as the Rangers sort out their TV mess. We tried YouTubeTV and enjoyed it, but it doesn't have Bally. fubo doesn't have a couple of channels that we occasionally watch but would go to fubo if Bally somehow talks the Rangers into another year.
OTOH, if Prime gets involved we will probably go with YouTubeTV as we are Prime members.

I dropped DTV a little over a month ago because my bill jumped to $250 a month. I'm now streaming with FUBO and like it a lot. Its $80 after tax and we bought HBO+ for $20. With those we have practically every channel I had with DTV.

Regarding sports, FUBO started as a sports streaming service and expanded from there so it has pretty much everything you would need. Its clunky to navigate, but for me thats a minor inconvenience to save $150 a month.

Honestly, should have just stuck it out with Spectrum. Bundling their 500Mb or 1G Internet with TV is cheaper than a standalone YouTube TV and ISP separate. You can stream from a device or smart TV for it too. And as long as Bally's has a stranglehold on local sports, it'll be on there.

Interesting 11. Our issue is uptime on Sepctrum is not very good. We have no choice on ISP as AT&T fiber hasn't made it to our part of Addison. From my research it will be a wash money-wise.

My two cents: I have DirecTV Stream and compared to my friends in the Dallas area, I'm in the best place when it comes to watching sports. I may be in the minority here, but I really like DirecTV stream because it's easy and I can watch it anywhere.

Bottom line: if you want to watch your local pro teams (e.g., Rangers, Mavericks, Stars on Bally's), DirecTV is the way to go. I have many friends who have switched to YouTube TV, Hulu, Sling, etc., and now they're complaining that they can't see their favorite pro teams regularly. Frankly, I don't understand their argument - they knew (in most cases) that they'd lose this stuff, but they switched solely to save money. Now they're regretting it.

DirecTV Stream might cost a little more than YouTube TV or Hulu, but frankly, more than half of the TV I watch is sports. I could save money by switching, but why would I still pay $ for a service that doesn't have the majority of stuff I want to watch?

The analysis is different, of course, if you don't have local pro teams to follow. If you have DirecTV only for LHN, then look into better options by all means - just make sure they have ESPN/SEC Network.

TDS Texas Derangement Syndrome. It’s altogether, for me at least, the most savory part of being a Longhorn. Didn’t the Longhorn Network earn $250,000,000 revenue besides single-handedly unleashing a TDS pandemic?

We should erect statues to the person who first thought of it and another full sized statue to the main person who spearheaded the idea

I believe those people would be DeLoss Dodds & DeLoss Dodds.

We switched to fubo at the start of baseball season, 2023. Ballys is included, plus we saved $50 a month. Unlimited recording. Some sports channels are included that directv didn't have (one of which covers live elite level chess tournaments, which we tune in at times. Others are regional sports channels like marquee)

They don't carry the turner owned channels. No tmc, cnn.

Navigating fubo takes time to get used to but changes "are on the way". Overall a much better product given the pricing and options

Gyl,

I believe it was originally $15 million a year for 20 years.

One of the major reasons for hiring a track guy from K-State as AD was Deloss supposedly was great negotiating TV deals. I have always liked Deloss (Mr Teflon) in spite of the Raydumb debacle. The man should have run for President because he is a better politician than anyone I've ever met. He carried a dead Big XII for how many years after Stanford shot down the "New SWC".

Initially I couldn't stand DeLoss...probably out of ignorance. I never understood what Cliff did to get himself fired &, seeing how I loved Cliff, I blamed DeLoss for his departure. I now accept that Cliff did something bad (I still don't know what & believe it was out of ignorance, but whatever) & DeLoss had no choice. I was very impressed by how well DeLoss (as Saber said) "carried a dead Big XII". All said & done, I now believe DeLoss was possible the best AD we (or anybody else) ever had.

sa,

Gus did it to himself. I really liked Gus, and appreciated that Deloss gave Gus multiple warnings and chances to correct the problem. There were those of us that offered to help Gus fix the problem, but his stubbornness carried on so long that his peers became aware which it made it increasingly more difficult to "fix". We were facing the possibility of the death penalty in baseball. Fortunately, the coaches at A&M, Baylor, TCU, Houston, LSU, USC, Arizona State, Miami. et al weren't talking or complaining, but they knew.

Deloss made up the camp story to protect Gus and the program. If we ever have the opportunity to meet, I'll give you tell story but without any phones.

:hookem2:

Thanks, Saber. I totally respect that this isn't the proper forum to air Gus's laundry. Truth is, I really have no need to know, I'm just curious & it's none of my business. I'll just continue with my assumption that Clif screwed up & DeLoss did what he had to do.
Though I WOULD love to meet you some day.

I became a Longhorn fan as a young kid because of Coach Gustafson and guys like Billy Bates
