how do you fix loose wall sockets/plugs? we are trying to plug in my tv and the plug will not stay connected. it is so loose it won't keep things powered up. am i making sense? i have to hold the plug with my hand to keep it connected to the wall socket.

Yes the socket in the wall gets worn out. Go buy a new one, which are cheap-either have an electrician replace it, or do it yourself if you feel you can do those kinds of home repair. There may be a choice of grades, so you can get a little heavier duty socket.

Good opportunity to go ahead and get yourself an multimeter and learn how to use it. Very underrated, affordable, and handy device for a homeowner.

there's only 3 wires to the recepticle...black, white, and ground. If it's daisy chained there is one more set. Any idiot/aggy could change one out.

Just get the connections good and snug.

It would probably take me 10 minutes to determine which breaker to turn off. I really need to get around to labeling the breaker box some day. Otherwise, if you can use a screwdriver, it's simple to replace.

Agree with using a meter or tester. I was referring to the quick and dirty technique used by electricians to identify a circuit by intentionally shorting out a socket with a screwdriver. I've seen it done in big commercial jobs but would not recommend it for the average homeowner.

I was referring to the screwdriver to actually take loose the outlet from the wall and to detach the wires from the old outlet and attach to the new outlet. Sheesh!
