Longhorns influence Bruce in St. Louis...

I flew up to St. Louis from Dallas this weekend to see Springsteen one last time on the "Magic" tour. What an amazing show-- he played for well over 3 hours with a nine-song encore. He even played two infamous covers that hadn't been played by the E Street Band since the 70's-- "Little Queenie" and "Mountain of Love." He even opened with "Then She Kissed Me."

Did I mention that I was in the pit, a mere 5 feet from Bruce the whole show?

But the best part took place during the now-obligatory request sign collection. Max lays down a big beat, and Bruce roams the front stage to collect sign requests. He must have picked up about 50 different signs. So guess what he pulls out first?

A lovely burnt orange sign that says, "We came all the way from Austin, Texas to hear RENDEVOUS." And of course, there was a big Longhorn logo on the sign as well. Bruce propped it up on his mic stand and I got to hear the classic "Darkness" era outtake for the first time live. And yes, I kept my Horns up the whole time.

I don't know who brought the sign, but thanks and Hook em!

Best Springsteen show I have ever seen, and it was my 15th.

MaxHorn:I am glad to hear you enjoyed the show.  I saw the "Magic" tour in Cleveland, Houston, Dallas, The Meadowlands, and Boston.

I year ago I worked with a woman that grew up in Jersey near Bruce and saw him from the beginning. She attended too many club dates to even count.

I really didn't need to ask, but I did, so I said, "How were those early years?" She just smiled and said, "You have no idea."

She went on to say that she's lucky to be alive because most of the time everyone, including herself, would leave those club shows blind drunk.

My first show was in '84. Bruce was a man on a mission last night. I can't even describe how special it was, and that feeling was shared by the folks around me (many of whom had seen him 100 times). He played "Drive All Night"-- need I say more?

And yes, Clarence NAILED it. Bruce gave him a huge hug afterwards. He kicked *** on "Jungleland" too.

Most importantly, did he cover any Neil Diamond? 'Cause that would rock.
