Longhorns in first round

seems like we have had a DB or DL go in the first round the last few years (other than VINCE!!)

Meanwhile, Miami continues their NCAA-leading incredible streak of at least one first round draft pick every year since 1993!

I also believe they set the record for highest number of total draft picks in a year (14) and the highest number of first rounders (6)

you would think that on a UT board you would know the record for the number of players drafted from one team in 1 year.

The correct answer is 1983, with 17 from THE University. but ehy also had a lot more rounds then

however, the 14 players drafted is a record for the current 7 round system.

Charles and Finley are the two that really should have stayed at UT for another year...at least.

oh yeah 1983 - cotton bowl v. georgia - guess itwas jan 1983. Georgia O lineman tackles #53 Mark Lang our LB and Lastinger goes round the end and scores. At least thats my recollection. I also remember song - 40 - 30 - 20 - 10 another touchdown Longhorns beating Georgia - to the tune of 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 earth below us shifting slowly or whatever. LORD HAVE MERCI...

Charles and Finely not getting selected in rounds 1 or 2 might make others give it more thought before they bail. Feel bad for the two but this could be a good thing for us in the future.

I think Mack needs to push these guys to wait until the last possible day to declare unless they are a Vince or Ricky type talent that is assured of going in the Top 10 regardless of who else comes out. If JC had waited longer, he would have seen the rest of the players coming out and realized that he was not a lock for the 1st or 2nd round.

Come on, m-lou. When JC said that he "heard what he wanted to hear" (in reference to when he would be drafted), I thought ... well, I guess he wanted to hear third round. That was before everyone that could have possibly declared for the draft at RB did.

What they really should talk to the guys about is not hiring an agent right away so they can change their mind and come back to school. In JC's case, I believe he did wait to hire the agent, but ultimately he still decided to go into the draft. In the end, this was just a puzzling decision on the part of Charles.

im not so sure charles and finley arent a product of some tough love by mack. he clearly wanted to turn the tables on the players before the bowl game- i think they learned they didn't have it so easy. i cant help but feel that jamaal and jermichael felt they were top prospects. mack wasn't going to argue and made examples of them.

Maybe that could be partly true but J-Mike has children now and things could have gotten tough for him to where this was a family need situation. Were we ou he could stay and have money beyond his scholarship. Car too. But we are not cheating scum so maybe he had to bolt.

I don't feel sorry for JC at all. The writing was on the wall for anyone that knew **** about football. He listened to the greedy *** agents and cost himself millions. He'll live with it now. I hope it's a lesson to other players in his situation. Absolutely retarded move.
