TBall7 - Any news of pro signings so far, Belt, Wood, Cain and any other recruits? Sure would like to see Torres, Clark and Tucker sign as free agents to get a shot.

According to the lists I've seen, none of our drafted guys or recruits have signed. Hernandez did, and I'm not sure about any free agents, but Belt, Wood, and Cain certainly haven't (or at least haven't been announced). I imagine Belt will run pretty close to the deadline with him most likely looking for above slot money. Wood is waiting because it probably really doesn't make a difference. I would imagine whatever team signs him would essentially sit him down and rest his arm after all the innings he threw. Cain hasn't signed, but I wouldn't expect to hear much on him for a while because it seems MLB is going to be more picky (or at least wait longer) to approve well above slot bonuses. The Pirates already signed their top 4 picks to slot bonuses, but they're going to have to spend big money to sign their 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th (and maybe 5th) because they are all high level talents who fell due to signability. Also, keep an eye on international SS Miguel Angel Sano. Once the MLB finishes their age investigation, he could garner a bonus btw 3 and 5 mil, and the Pirates have been the favorite to land him. If they don't, expect them to throw that extra money at guys like Cain and maybe even Josh Urban.

Yep, basically its what the MLB recommends a team pay each pick. If you look atThe Link you can see a pretty steady decrease in bonuses, and pretty much all of the signings so far have been for slot money. Only the top 10 rounds are technically slotted, I believe.

The lower outliers in this situation are always the 4th/5th year college guys because they have basically no leverage.

Baseball America lists JC transfer Jacob Cowan as having signed with Baltimore.
