I saw this movie for the 1st time on HDnet tonight. It may be one of the best movies ive ever seen and definately worth a second viewing.
What other work has this director done? and is it as good as this one?
Lone Star is a highly underrated gem of a movie. John Sayles wrote & directed the film. You may also want to search out his films Eight Men Out, Sunshine State and Passion Fish.
Lone Star is an excellent movie, as are Eight Men Out and Matewan.
Wasn't Sayles also signed on originally to direct the Alamo remake a few years ago? And then he backed out? Can't remember the details. It wasn't bad, IMO, but I have a feeling he would've made a better film.
Matewan and Lone Star are two of my top ten movies ever.
BTW, if you are an indie rock or alt-country fan, you'll get a kick out of seeing young Will "Bonnie Prince Billy" Oldham as a kid preacher in Matewan.
I still remember drinking a good amount of beer and professing my interest in a girl after watching Lone Star in college. She ended up dating and marrying a good friend of mine....
You're right, HiHK. Underrated is probably the wrong term. It's just that every few months a thread just like this pops up where people see Lone Star for the first time & are wondering why they don't remember it being released in the theater, don't know the director, etc.
It's a great film & it's a shame that it had such a relatively low exposure when first released. Glad that more & more people are discovering it each year.
"Hi, I'm John Sayles. You may remember me as the writer or director of such films as "The Brother from Another Planet," "Alligator'" and "Clan of the Cave Bear."
Was this the one where they find the rusted out sherrif's badge in a field next to a skeleton and most of the story is flashback about the corrupt Kris Kristofferson character? I saw it so long ago it's all I remember. If so, good flick
