Lone Star

Just watched this movie for the first time the other night. Why did nobody tell me how awesome this movie is. It should be required watching in every Texas High School. Really captures the essence of living in Texas. Just as relevant today as it was in 1996. Maybe more so.

I was reading NCFOM reviews and someone mentioned Lone Star, which reminded me that I'd never seen it. I need to hunt it down soon.

I've told everybody on this board that numerous times. It should be required viewing for every Texan, and ever human who might ever interact with a Texan.

Yeah, it would seem that John Sayles actually, you know, went to the border to get a feel for when he was writing the script.

Chris Cooper is one of the most underrated guys around.

Kristofferson is incapable of being less than great in anything he does. Scholar, jock, songwriter, musician, actor -- it doesn't matter. The man is truly a genius, in every possible sense. An American treasure.

What the last two guys said. He scared the **** out of me in that movie. I haven't seen it in forever- need to watch it again.

I aspire to one day live like Frances McDermond's character.

...actually, i already live like Frances McDermond's character.

Different strokes, I suppose. I love his voice. It works with his songs. Ever heard him sing "Sunday Morning Coming Down"?

I've been preachin' the understated greatness of Lone Star to anyone who'll listen for 10 years now. My wife had never seen it so when we finally watched it on the DVR a week ago she was blown away. Tremendously quotable script, too.

"This stretch of road runs between 'nowhere' and 'not much else'"

"You oughta put up a banner: 'Fontera, Texas. Gateway to inexpensive *****.'"

"So I'm part Indian?"
"By blood you are. But blood only means what you let it."

"Let's see...I did two tours of duty in southeast Asia and I was married for 5 years. I couldn't tell you which experience was worth. I knew she was Japanese going in, but she didn't tell me about the Ninja assassin part."

i would guess endust is "tightly wound."

No one has mentioned that it is, perhaps, Naked Bongo's finest performance.

Just watched Oldboy last night after Lone Star on Thursday. I don't know what it is with me and the incest movies this week. Dang...

FWIW - Both are outstanding movies.

Not to pick a fight, viva bad tequila, but can you provide a few examples of non-alien/evilninjaassassin/war movies that you found not boring?
