Today starting at 6 P.M. in College Station is the Men's Swimming and Diving meet between the Horns and the aggies. The winners get the point for the State Farm Lone Star Showdown competition. We really need this point and should win but the Aggies are always tough in CS.

Currently we are ahead 5 1/2 to 1 1/2 but we are getting into spring sports where the Aggies always tougher especailly in CS. We will need 10 points to win the competition and these last points will be tough to get.

GO HORNS!!

our men's tennis team won too. does that count for the point b/c it was a non-conference texas cup game?

Tamster the Men's tennis match that counts is the conference match on 4-17-10 as far as the State Farm Lone Star Showdown (LSS) is concerned. That point is not influenced on whether we beat them in non conference matches or playoff matches. Tennis is critical for us. Last year our Men'ts tennis team lost a close one in CS and that cost us the LLS trophy. This year both our tennis teams need to win it but our ladies have the toughest place to play as they go to CS where the Aggies always play us above their heads. Also last year what hurt us is that our Men's basketball split with them last year and our women's basketball team were swept. Hopefully we can do better in basketball.

Women's indoor track won a dual meet with aggy a few weeks back but unfortunately that doesnt count for the competition either and its hard to see them duplicating that at the conference meet where you have to factor in so many other things.

Good to see the swimming dominance continue, woud love to see an NC for the Horns this year and they have the horses to do it on the men's side though it will be tough.

The road to the LSS still requires the two tennis points, baseball and then a 1/2 point from one of the remaining basketball and softball games or a huge upset in the golf and track arenas.

I was confident of another 1/2 point from basketball but that team is imploding and the visit to B/CS doesnt look nearly as promising as it did just a few weeks ago. Women's basketball would be a huge upset. Dont know about softball but given the last two years the edge for both goes to aggy.

At this point if all goes to form expect a 9 1/2 to 9 1/2 tie again this year just like last year with aggy retaining the trophy again.

FW I agree. It will be close though. Unfortunately we are now into the sports where the Aggies dominate and they get the tie. The next 1/2 point available is the Women's Basketball game at CS on Feb. 20. The Aggies are always tough at home. We will have a chance if the team shows up and plays like they did against Baylor and Oklahoma but the one shows up that got whipped in Austin then it will be another long game.

I had hopes but unfortunately the score is now 6 - 2 as A&M beats us in Women's Basketball again. This makes 7 straight for the Aggies and it has really hurt us in the State Farm Showdown. PLus the Aggie Coach showed disrespect by calling us TU. I wish we would do something about that but we didn't today. I support the Horns but it would be nice to win once in a while and not lose 7 in a role.

Tomorrow (FEb. 27) there are 2 1/2 points available as the schools meet in the Big 12 Men and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship. Who ever scores most final points win the points. The 1/2 point available goes to winner of the men's basetball game in CS starting at noon. Unfortuantely I don't think there are any tv coverages. This is a critical day in the competition. There won't be any more available until April.

Bad news as we got swept by the Aggies today and this could mean disaster in the competition for us. Our basketball team was terrible and gave the half point to the Aggies and the Indoor Track and Field teams gave up 2 more. I was hoping we could get at least one of them but it wasn't meant to be.

The standings are now 6 1/2 to 5 in our favor but I expect the Aggies to sweep us in outdoor track and field and golf.

Bill, like you I watch this a lot closer than most Texas fans and I figure if they keep score then its important. But more and more this year it is hard to see a path to retaking the trophy and that makes three years in a row that aggy will have won and/or retained the trophy. This should disturb Texas fans a whole lot more than it does. $Bill has made a mess of their football program and yes that is the most important sport but you cant deny that tool has upgraded the rest of their athletics and so far at least Texas has not had an adequate response.

Let's not surrender just yet. The men's golf team just won a tournament in Puerto Rico, one that included #1 Oklahoma State. Texas has at least a decent chance in sports worth 5 more points--baseball, men's tennis, softball, women's tennis, and men's golf--and should be favored in at least two of those.

We still have a chance but what worries me is that our Women's Tennis team has to play in CS where the Aggies are always tough. Last year our men got beat there and looking at the comparison of post season success the Aggies didn't belong on the same court as them but they still got the point and that hurt. Also dropping a whole point to them in basketball last year and maybe this year has hurt us bad. Remember the Aggies win the tie for all practical purposes.

We need 3 1/2 points to win. We really need to at least win one softball game to get 1/2 point. Then we will need 3 out of 6 available points in Men and Women's Tennis, Men and Women's Golf and baseball. Last year we were swept in Golf and split in tennis. That was very costly. Of course right now the Aggies are heavy favorites to get the Men and Women's Outdoor Track and Field points.
