I'm going to Israel in a couple of weeks, and I've managed to arrange one night on each end of the trip to stay over in London. On the way out, I'll have from about 6:30 AM until 11AM the next day, arriving and departing from Heathrow. On the way back, I'll have from 11AM until 10AM the next day, arriving at Heathrow, but departing from Gatwick.
I'm looking for a unique hotel somewhere in London -- it can be near the airport or not, but I'll likely be in central London (I think) during the day. Price is a bit of an issue, so I'd probably like to stay in the $100 to $200 USD range. I know there are several dumps (Comfort Inn for example) near the airport that are below this range, but I'd rather have something more unique. Definitely does not have to be a chain as for this trip, I don't care about points. Having a local pub or two within walking distance is a huge plus (okay, maybe it is a requirement). I will not have a car.
In addition to a hotel, I'm looking for fun stuff to do while there. Ideally I'd like to take in a soccer match, but upon my cursory review, it looks like I might be out of luck. Price is not really an issue on a ticket. I've been to London a few times, but the last time was about 7 years ago. All times have been work related, and I didn't have a lot of time to spend on my own. Any advice here is also very welcome.
Thanks in advance, Hornfans.
