Logistics regarding Ole Miss/Oxford?

Anyone familiar with the area around Ole Miss? Looks like hotels in Oxford are already booked for the weekend of September 15th. I'm guessing people typically stay in Memphis (about an hour and a half away)? Any suggestions?

Suggestion: In the future going to Longhorn away games in small towns make your reservations etc. more than a year in advance. Waiting till 200 days before the event is just not enough time.

Looks like Memphis for me and my crew. I did some lurking over on the Ole Miss Boards and there are a bunch of little towns around Oxford that have hotels but are probably sold out as well.

I am actually checking to see if there is a house to rent, rent it for a week, $1000 sleeps a bunch of people, stay Wednesday through Monday etc.

The only time I've been to Oxford was 2005 for the baseball Super Regional. I stayed in the RV lot in my friend's Prevost. But I talked to a lot of folks who stayed in Memphis.

Also, looks like about 160 miles to Jackson -- couple of hours, I guess.

My Ole Miss cousin and her family are staying in Batesville. Most of the towns within 4-60 miles of Oxford have national chain motels, and are worth a try.

Take if from a native of the area.

We are staying on the square in downtown Oxford

Our group is staying in Memphis, already booked hotel and air. One of the couples going with us, also taking their son, an Ole Miss grad to be our "tour guide" in Oxford. When he was in school, they always stayed at a hotel over in Tunica. Since Tunica is on the Misssippi River, most of the hotels also have casinos.

If you are looking for a place to eat in Oxford I suggest either Abbeville Catfish and Steaks, Rebel Barn Bar-B-Que, Ole South Steakhouse or Muddy Water Grill. Backyard Burgers is pretty good too.

Depends what you want out of the trip. Oxford is a nice college town, but as someone said, hotels are sold out.

I have lived in Memphis for five years now. Tons of visiting fans stay in Memphis. Much more do than in the small town surrounding Oxford.

We went down for a game last Fall and it took us an hour and 15 minutes, maybe 20.

Nice campus and the people are really nice. When you get down to it, they just want to party, as they expect to lose most of the time.

I will have a house full of friends and we will drive from Memphis or maybe take a bus.

If anyone needs Memphsi tips, I'm hear for ya.

If you're trying to book your Oxford hotels online, they will absolutely show up as unavailable. I spoke directly with several of the chain hotels in Oxford earlier this year and was told that they don't officially open up reservations for football game weekends until early June. Each has a different date they open reservations - so calling them directly seems to be the ticket. We've booked in Tupelo as our backup, but will be trying these numbers in June. A very nice woman at the Old Miss Inn sent me this list of area hotels - including surrounding towns. Oxford and Surrounding Hotels Good Luck!

Any thoughts on the game time? Will CBS feature this as their game of the week?

Night game on ESPN?

Looking forward to it - just got a flight to Memphis.

What is the SEC contract?

Hopefully the AL - Ark game will be on CBS prime time, FL - Tenn will be in the afternoon and we could be the ESPN 6:00 game or so.
