Lodging in Telluride, CO

My wife and I booked flights to go skiing in Telluride in February and are now trying to figure out where to stay.

It looks like the Mountain Village area would be the best as we are looking to be close to the lifts.

Does anyone have any suggestions on places to stay. My budget is around $300-350 a night.

Thanks

I think the actual town is much better than the Mountain Village "town." If you want the best of both worlds, you might stay in town near the Gondola. We've stayed at Hotel Columbia before and like it (it might be higher than you're price range, but worth a look). In addition to the Gondola, they also have a couple of lifts in town along the river that will get you up the mountain quickly.

Telluride is a great place for a Ski Vacation. My favorite.

Beautiful, Neat Town, Nice Mountain, Not Crowded,
etc. But also you pay for the amenities.

You are correct that Mountain Village has better access to skiing and many more places to stay - even though most are condos/timeshares.

- Basically the Mountain side going down to Telluride was too steep, so the developers built the ski resort on the other side of the Mountain and built a ski village at its base. Everything in Mountain Village seems new and it does not have the Old Moutain Town ambience of the city of Telluride.

Mtn. Village is a modern ski village with ski rental places, restaurants (burgers/pizzas, etc) and is very busy during the day but dies down considerably at night.

In order to connect the towns a Free Gondola was built connecting Mtn. Village to Telluride - This gondola runs from 6:00 A.M. to Midnight & is about a 10 minute ride & the ride is really too gorgeous to truly explain as you go down into Telluride.

This gondola is also the access to the ski area from Telluride - So really any place in the town of Telluride is ski in/ski out since it is only 4 blocks by 8 blocks. You can ski down into the city of Telluride and one run is fairly tame with the others being blacks. However, 90% of the skiing is on the Mtn. Village side.

So really no matter where you are staying - you have easy free access the ski area and free access to both Telluride/or Mountain Village.

In short - The city of Telluride has the restaurants, bars, night life, etc. Mtn Village the modern ski village & better access to skiing & more/newer places to stay.

One more thing - While everything in the city of Telluride is ski in/ski out bt necessity (you would leave your skis/boots at gondola for small price for locker) - This is not necessarily true in Mtn. Village -so I would definately look into acess to the slopes before booking. Any place in Mtn. Village with access to the slopes should be within walking distance to the gondala, thus walking distance to Telluride.

However, the gondola really does make it where it is easy to take advantage of the best of both worlds -so I really wouldn't worry too much about where you stay.

As to where to stay - it will be expensive that time of the year anywhere - I would definately check into condos. Like I said, almost anything ski in/ ski out in Mtn. Village would be nice. The Peaks and the Fairmont Franz Klamer Loge are hotels and both very nice (& I suspect expensive).

I know Priceline has some 4* hotels in Telluride/mtn. village so you may want to try those. However, I expect for your price range you may actually be more likely to find something in the city of Telluride rather than Mtn. Village - which would be fine.

That was too much. If you find a hotel/condo you are considering - P.M. me and I will be happy to check it out for you. But, I would not worry too much about whether its in Telluride or Mtn. Village. We stay in Mtn. Village at a timeshare through Elevation Vacations.

Get a condo right by LIft 9? down in Telluride proper. It's literally ski-in, ski-out, plus you're in town which is much better than the Mountain Village. A short walk away from the gondola, and downtown where the best restaurants are located.

Telluride is by far my favorite ski town in Colorado. And I live here.
