Lockerbie Bomber Released

Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, the only man ever convicted of the 1988 Pan Am 103 bombing, which killed 270 people, was released from a Scottish jail today and put on a plane to return home to Libya. He was released on compassionate grounds, Scottish officials said, after doctors said he is suffering from terminal prostate cancer and may have only three months to live.

What a crappy thing to do on the part of Scottland. I'm really sick of the liberla term...compassionate. This guy should die alone. He should have been tortured to death.

When I lived in London, I was always stunned by the British interpretation of justice. Some of the most unthinkable and brutal crimes resulted in sentences of 15 years. Violent Assaults merits maybe a year in jail.

That whole island has turned into a senile, old. frightened collection of elders. There is nothing left of the old British Lion.

It's pretty hard to logically justify compassion and forgiveness, even for those of us who try to be faithful to Jesus.

I guarantee you no one associated with this ******** decision had ANY relatives or friends on that plane!

It's a good decision.

America should follow suit.

And guess what? We'll have to. We've had decades of idiotic "lock them up and throw away the key", "three strikes and you're out" mentality. And guess what? We can't afford it. And it doesn't work. So save all your whining and bogus mathematical calculations of x days served per person killed crap for others whose answer is "build more prisons".

Exactly! We should just shoot them and save us the money. I'm glad we can finally agree on something.

"America should follow suit."

Oh hell no. Commit a terrible, crime you should get a one way ticket to hell. No long term incarceration, just a bullet between the eyes. Tons of money would be saved liquidating all the human waste who have committed heinous crimes and continue to be on the American taxpayer's dime.

There should be an expedited appeal process. I support full due process and I believe most of the time the accussed is correctly convicted, but admit mistakes are made. It is or would be a terrible situation for an innocent person to be executed, but it is hundred times worse to have thousands of murderers living out life sentences which include access to drugs, books, health care, education and the opportunity to atleast see loved ones. It is total nonsense to allow this while a family has lost a father/mother, son or daughter to some dirt bag scum. That a-hole in Scotland should have been sent to live out his existence in hell. William Wallace is rolling over in his grave.

DFW, I can usually tell how interested someone is in reasoned debate by their willingness to call people whining and bogus on the initial post.

Yeah, what is that saying? "Don't argue with with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

I should probably listen to DFWAg and Prodigal, but Perham I have to ask, what do you do with murders?

I know we can discuss the cost of our prison system, how long we should lock up folks for certain crimes, etc. But you have over 2500 posts, so I take it you study and debate. What would you do with murders? Seriously.

This is not a progressive or "liberal" issue. This is not a prison overcrowding issue. (The guy was not released to make room for other more heinous criminals.) This low life murdered a bunch of innocent people, without remorse then or now, and he is being let go by some lame government out of concern for his WELL BEING? WTF! I must admit, this annoys the **** out of me. Who cares if he dies in jail? Wasn't that the plan when he was sentenced to LIFE in jail? Since his death in prison was supposed to be the sentence in the first instance, does the greater predictability of that somehow give him a commutation? UGGHHH.
