Locked up Abroad

Every once in a while I'll come across this show on Nat Geo Channel and it can usually hold my interest.

That said, has anyone seen the recent episode titled, "Betrayed in Ecuador"...? The woman from Ireland who travels to Ecuador to help a friend get a visa to return to England has to be THE DUMBEST CHICK ALIVE. Of course, her "friend" plants cocaine in her luggage and she gets busted and does 5 years in an Ecuadorean chick jail.

This thread will only make sense to someone who caught the episode. If you have a chance to see it, check it out, but for God's sake keep the remote handy as you may not be able to stand the dumbassery of the girl that gets busted.

Great show. I dvr it every week and try to find time to watch. Some of the "victims" I feel sorry for, others, like the girl who got busted in Ecuador, are just idiots. Why would you travel from London to Ecuador to give someone money and help them with their visa? If you're so inclined, wire the fool some money and tell that dude to go to the freaking embassy and figure it out himself. I somehow don't believe she was innocent. The fact she even made the trip was mind-boggling. There had to be other motives for the trip, possibly illegal ones.

I think the true loser in that episode was the husband. How do you befriend some ramdom dude on a trip to a foreign country and let him into your house? How do you let your wife travel to Ecuador alone - for ANY reason? How do you not fly down there immediately after hearing she was in jail to bail her out? Furthermore, how do you not arrive with $20K cash to make it happen? Sell your car, borrow money, whatever.

I thought the Iraq episode was interesting.

this show sounds great. what day is it on?
a friend of mine went from czech republic to bratislava. he apparently lost track of a single bud of weed and it was found upon arrival.
in jail for 4 months and it was hell getting him out even then. of course, it's his fault but still, that **** is crazy. like that movie with joaquin phoenix, paradise lost.

I caught it Wednesday night at 9pm.

The episode about the western eco-tourists who were kidnapped in Africa was pretty scary.

I don't spend a lot of time smuggling drugs abroad, but this show still scares the **** out of me! I only wish they gave a little bit more postscript at the end of each episode, like what the people are up to now.
