Lloyd Doggett

Doggett is the only member of the Texas delegation to vote against these 3 bills supporting the Oil & Gas industry, which, by the way, employs a hell of a lot of Texans. What an embarassment he is.

No, try to take off your Democrat hat for just a moment. I'm not talking about payoffs here but actual, real jobs. Remember jobs? That was the things we had before we had 2 years of government-funded vacations.

Is there much oil and gas in his Central Texas district for him to support these bills? I'm not sure if Giddings or Luling are, but he does vote for his constituents and obviously has their support. He's a district Congressman, not a US Senator.

If he voted his conscience despite the fact that the oil and gas industry is feeding him, then I say more power to him. We need more folks who are willing to do that in Washington.

If he voted what his constituency wants, then I also say more power to him.

He's beholden to the voters of Travis, Bastrop, Caldwell, Gonzalez, Hayes, Lavaca, and Colorado counties ---- NOT the hands that, according to Oilfield, are feeding him.

With Texans like this, who needs Californians.

Again, I understand Doggett is not getting big contributions from Energy companies. But wouldn't it be nice if that did not matter, and if Doggett could put the economic health of his state and the citizens in his state above his own personal agenda, whatever that might be?

Clearly this administration has an axe to grind with Texas. Unfortunately Lloyd Doggett is determined to help them grind it.

So now Doggett is only representing his district and that is as it should be?
But when he pushed through that Texas hating " Doggett amendment" some of you said he was representing the whole State's best interests.

That argument is silly.

Should Texas Senators be beholden to vote for silly auto manufacturing jobs in Michigan? Should Odessa voters be beholden to vote for coastal beautification and tourism jobs?

Just because you include the word jobs in your argument doesn't make it stand above all.

Doggett is an a##hat and got lucky he won re-election against a first time never been in politics before emergancy room physician Dr. Donna Campbell.

Doggett, one sorry excuse for an elected official.

Everything is so negative with you. You could have easily started a positive thread praising Sheila Jackson Lee. Why didn't you do that?

Given what BP has done in Texas City and offshore, you will pardon me if I share the distrust of the oil industry's environmental concerns just now. These bills will hurry the further exploration of the offshore areas that got in that little spill last year. Most companies are not as reckless as BP but it is clear that there needs to be more effective regulation of their methods and their maintenance procedures.

The oil is not going away and we can drill for it next year or the next.

It has been a long time since I worked offshore back in the '60s but I remember the first thing I was told when I stepped onto my first rig------"don't throw anything overboard if there is Coast Guard around," followed by " don't throw anything overboard that can be tied to the rig."

Times have changed some, no doubt, but any review of what happened on that rig in the weeks preceding the deaths of those 11 men should give pause to those advocating overthrowing federal oversight in the Gulf.

The administration's approach is not anti Texas, it is pro US.

Husaiche, your arguments are valid. The response I would have there is that if there is a moratorium on all drilling in the Gulf, then just say so. If there is not a moratorium, then don't sit on applications forever. This is political ********. Process the applications. A shallow water moratorium was never announced, but we certainly have one based on this administrations actions. If you are going to ban all drilling, just say so. Sure, you can drill again years from now, but the local economy will take the hit until that time comes.

Agreed. And while we are on the subject of the Gulf, how about outlawing comercial fishing and shrimping for up to say fifty miles offshore? Those bozos have destroyed the laguna's natural environment. The shrimpers first, the oyster catchers are doing so now. Leave it to the non commercial fishermen, who are as environmentally sound a bunch as you will find and the areas get restored but leave it to these shrimpers and it gets destroyed
